In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mazenod Residence or St. Paul's Hospital Palliative Care Unit. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 13th at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Father Jon Hansel, C.S.s.R. as the celebrant. | 4 | Gloria Muderewich passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with cancer on Wednesday, September 9th, 2020 at the Pasqua General Hospital in Regina, SK at the age of 66. Gloria was born on March 2, 1954 in Canora, SK to Paul and Rose Kindratsky. She grew up on a farm near Hyas, SK with her older brother Bernard and older sister Carol. She attended elementary school in Hyas and then completed high school in Norquay, SK. Gloria married Dale on May 17, 1975, and they settled in Saskatoon. She enjoyed working at the doctor’s office for 25 years before retiring in 2015. It was the perfect job for her because of her caring nature and dedication to the patients and her coworkers. She was fortunate enough to be able to take many trips with her husband, friends, and family and got to see many different tropical locations. Gloria was always easy to find in a crowd, you just had to listen for her laugh. She loved hosting and made her home into an inviting retreat with many activities for guests. Guests looked forward to her cooking, especially her homemade perogies, cabbage rolls, and scuffles. She was always warm, cheerful, and welcoming and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and bird-watching. Her kindness, patience, and caring ways always made you feel welcome and special. Her work ethic, wisdom, and willing spirit has been and will continue to be an inspiration to her family. She encouraged us to be the best we can be and was always proud of our accomplishments. She passed on the importance of honesty and integrity; and reminded us to always find strength in your faith. Above all, she loved her family. Gloria was predeceased by her father Paul in 1989; her mother Rose in 2002; brother Bernard in 2004; brother-in-law Ken Faust in 2015; and father-in-law Peter Muderewich in 2015. She is lovingly survived by her husband Dale; sons Shaun (Sarah Trottier) and Kent (Lisa Rymes) of Regina; sister Carol Faust of Kelowna, BC; sister-in-law Stella Kindratsky of North Battleford; mother-in-law Ann Muderewich of Yorkton; brother-in-law Randy (Linda) Muderewich of White City; nephews and nieces Dwayne (Nicole) Faust of Kelowna, BC; Ward (Barb) Faust of Grand Forks, BC; Jason (Crystal) Kindratsky of North Battleford; Michelle Kindratsky (Kevin Lasiuk) of Saskatoon; and all of their children; as well as numerous cousins, relatives, and life-long friends | Kindratsky, Gloria (I1565)

| 5 | HULIAYETS At the beginning of the 19th century, in Greek Catholic Registers, they wrote the surname as Huliay (Gulay in Latin). Then they added the ending “-yetsâ€, and it became “Huliayetsâ€. The ending “-yets†means belonging to some kin, in this case it means belonging to Huliay family. Therefore, I suppose that the original surname was “Huliayâ€, and then it was transformed into “Huliayetsâ€. I will write “Huliayetsâ€. I have managed to determine that the first of your kin was ILLIA HULIAYETS (Elias Gulay). He was obviously born at the end of the 18th century. He married Iryna Kostiuk (Eryna Kostiukowa). They lived in the building No 12 and had at least 5 children: HULIAYETS PELAHIA (Gulay Pelagia) 2.05.1800 DOB. Her further fate is unknown. HULIAYETS OLEKSA (Gulay Alexius) 1.04.1803 DOB. His further fate is unknown. HULIAYETS IVAN (Gulay Jan/Joannes) 15.04.1806 DOB. He married Teklia Mykhalchuk; her parent was Thomko (Thecla Michalczuk, parents Thomas). She was born in about 1809; she died 20.09.1889 at the age of 80. Ivan died until 1889. They lived in the building No 48 in Hrymaylivka, and had at least 2 children: - Huliayets Demian (Gulajec Damianus) 14.11.1847 DOB. 18.11.1872 he married Anna Mamchur, p.Mikhal and Sophia Klakovych (Anna Mamczur, p.Michael et Sophia Klakowicz). | 6 | John Stecyk-Martyniuk of Norquay, SK passed away at the Kamsack Hospital on January 24, 2017, at the age of 60 years. John William Stecyk was born on November 23, 1956, to Metro and Annie (Teslak) Stecyk in Saskatoon, SK. In 1966, he relocated with his mother and step-father, Bill Martyniuk, to farm in the Norquay District. John loved the farm and all aspects of the farm life. He helped his parents and took on many responsibilities around the yard. He cared for the animals, milked cows, and helped with the grain farming operations. For a time, John worked as a long-haul truck driver, which took him throughout Canada and the USA. John also enjoyed working on heavy construction equipment. Recently, John purchased a little house on Main Street in Norquay, where he continued to reside until his passing. He enjoyed socializing with friends over coffee across the street at Corner Gas or Coop and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. John was predeceased by his father, Metro; mother, Annie and his step-father, Bill. Left to cherish his memory are his aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and extended family members. The Vigil of Prayer was held on Monday, January 30, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. with Funeral Liturgy celebrated on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., both from Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Norquay, with Rev. Fr. Ivan Derkach, as Celebrant. Rite of Committal followed in the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, southwest of Norquay, SK. | 8 | Obituary of COURTNEY LAINE CLYDE COURTNEY LAINE CLYDE (nee Dvorak) In the early morning hours of September 17, 2016 our precious Courtney Laine peacefully passed away cradled in the arms of God with her parents at her side. She had courageously and valiantly battled lymphoma for many months. Courtney was born on February 14, 1982, a beautiful baby full of life and joy. As she grew she spread happiness wherever she went, she lit a room with her endless energy and free spirit. Courtney was a kind, capable young mother and wife who always put the needs of others before her own. She was so much to so many people. She loved deeply and fully her children Jessica and Rylan, you could see the pride in her eyes whenever she was with them or she was speaking of them. All her energy and passion was spent caring for her family and her home. The deep connection she had with her children was beyond measure. She was a fierce advocate for children on the Autism Spectrum being involved in numerous advocacy activities. She thoroughly enjoyed her work at Seven Oaks General Hospital, she had worked on the surgical unit, in the emergency department and on family medicine. She thought so highly of her colleagues and made many friends there. The loss of our Courtney is incomprehensible. She was our bright light, our teacher, and our inspiration. The magic that was Courtney will live on in all of us forever. Left to celebrate her life are, her husband Steven and their beautiful children Rylan seven years and Jessica four years. Her mother and father, Ken and Marilynne Dvorak, her siblings Christopher, and his wife Erica (Alex and Ethan), Dustin, Tyne, and her partner Brad (Leah), her grandmother, Muriel Dvorak, and numerous cousins. In- laws Gordon and Jeannette Clyde. Steven’s siblings Jason and wife Heather (Brody and Molly), Brad and wife Martha (Evelyn and Alistair). Many dear friends and colleagues. Courtney was predeceased by their baby girl Abigail, grandparents, Gordon and Clemence Bowen, her grandfather Leopold Dvorak, her great grandparents Leopold and Anna Dvorak, Harry and Dorothy (Nanny) Ellison, Angelique and Anthony Ducharme, Charles and Lillian Bowen. The family would like to sincerely thank the skilled team on GD6 at Health Sciences Centre for their compassion and excellent care. Thank you Amy for all the planning you did for Courtney and Jazmine for being with Courtney when she needed you most. The WRHA Palliative Care team and the wonderful team on the 3rd floor at Cancer Care and the lovely volunteers with their smiles, coffee, tea, water, cookies, and soup at lunch time. The respiratory clinicians, WRHA Home Care. Dr. Pamela Skrabek, you worked so hard for Courtney and she appreciated you very much. There were so many wonderful people who cared and contributed to Courtney’s care over the last nine months who we may not have mentioned, please know she appreciated everyone. The celebration of Courtney’s life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the chapel. There will be a private interment. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews. | 9 | Ron Rakochy, beloved husband of Laurie Rakochy of the Canora District, passed away suddenly at his home on April 8th, 2012, at the age of 54 years. Ron was born May 7th,1957, to Bill and Pauline (Hryhoriw) Rakochy. He grew up in the store in Amsterdam. His mother and father both came from large families so he had many cousins to play with along with the boys of Amsterdam. He also spent many hours happily helping his family on the farm. It was then he realized he wanted to be a farmer. Ron graduated from Canora Composite High school in 1975, and from the University of Saskatchewan in 1977 with a Diploma in Agriculture. One of his great loves was to put a seed into the ground and watch it grow. He started farming with his brother Joe and their father. Ron was not someone who would do anything half-way. He always gave everything 100%. For the last thirty-six years, he went to work every morning very happy, whether it be plowing the field during seeding or making rounds on the combine for harvest. He was a lifelong member of the Canora Agricultural Society and acted as president for a term. Ron also was a member of the Canora Fish and Game. Ron married Laurie on August 7th, 1982, and they made their home on the farm north of Canora. Together they had three beautiful children: Benjamin, Lauren and Zachary. The most important thing in Rons life was his family. The children kept both Ron and Laurie very busy with their varied activities. Ron spent many happy hours taking his boys to hockey, baseball, basketball, soccer and football and loved cheering them on. He happily took Lauren to her piano lessons, Ukranian dance, and figure skating. He spent many hours fishing and ice fishing with his family. He loved hunting with his boys. Ron also took great joy as he travelled through Florida, Mexico and the Caribbean with his family. Even though his children were fully grown, he spoke to each of them every day just to see how their day went and to make sure they were okay. Ron was predeceased by his father Bill Rakochy; his mother-in-law Barbara Demchuk and his father-in-law Peter Demchuk. He leaves to cherish his memory his best friend and wife of twenty-nine years, Laurie; his children Benjamin (Danielle), Lauren and Zachary; His mother Pauline; His brother Joe (Cheryl); his nephews Jason (Vanessa), James (Connie) and Jeffrey (Patience) Rakochy; his brother Clifford (Delores) and their children: Rhonda (Dean) Clarke, Melanie (Brendan Lally) Rakochy, and Tara (Sean) Stark; his sister-in-law Shelley (Len) Ludba and their children: Kaitlyn (Taylor) and Drew; his sister-in-law Tara (Shane); his brother-in-law Terry (Anita) Demchuk and their children: Brittany, Mckenzie, Nicholas and Emmett as well as numerous aunts, uncles, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. The Prayer Service was held on Thursday, April 12th, 2012. The Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, April 13th, 2012, both held from the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Canora, with Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac, Celebrant. Interment followed in the Canora Cemetery. | 10 | The family of the late Nestor Olynyk of Hyas, SK, announce his passing at home on December 24, 2017, at the age of 86 years. Nestor was born on March 29, 1931 on the family farm south of Hyas, SK, to Peter and Maria (Dranchuk) Olynyk. The eldest of seven siblings, Nestor spent his early years on the family farm and attended Ulric School. Later, the family moved to Hyas and Nestor started working with his father at the family service stations in Hyas, Stenen, and Bangor, and eventually running the garage in Hyas. As part of the business, he was the mechanic, issued SGI licenses and operated the STC bus stop. In 1957, Nestor married Lydia Tymoschuk. They made their home in Hyas and were blessed with four children. In 1962, Nestor purchased land north of Hyas. Throughout his years, he was part of many community organizations, such as the Hyas Town Council, Hyas Housing Commission, Hyas Greek Orthodox Church, Crystal Lake Church Camp, and Dnipro Cemetery. Nestor was always quick to lend a hand in any way he could. After closing the garage and retiring in the 1990’s, Nestor enjoyed working on his land, gardening, going up north to the camp with his hunting buddies, fishing trips, and spending time with family, friends and his community. He had a passion for music, playing guitar and violin at weddings, dances, and events in his early years. He continued playing music throughout his life whenever the spirit moved him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Nestor is predeceased by his parents, Peter and Maria; brothers, Modiste and Donald and brothers-in-law: Alphonse, Lorne and Mike. | 11 | William (Bill) Martyniuk of the Norquay Health Centre passed away peacefully on October 24th, 2012, at the age of 90 years. Bill was born on November 28th, 1921, to George and Lena (Romashenko) Martyniuk on the family farm, four miles south of Norquay, SK. As a young boy, he attended the North Willow Grove School and helped on the family farm with his parents and brothers. Bill loved the farm and was always very interested in grain farming, caring for his animals and riding his horse Bobby. He enjoyed family gatherings and he hosted many family events, reunions and barbeques at the farm. Anyone who visited the farm was usually recruited to help the days work whether it be repairs, haying or field work. Bill trained many a nephew in the chores of the farm. When the work was done, the trip to town on Saturday night to pick up supplies and socialize, was an event to look forward to. In the summer, Bill would announce that after church a trip to Crystal Lake was in order and as nieces and nephews we loved to hear that! Bill had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and joke. A highlight of his day was Coffee Time , where a full lunch was enjoyed by whoever stopped by the farm. In January 1966, Bill married Ann Stecyk in Saskatoon, SK, and welcomed her and her son John into his life where they enjoyed many happy years on the farm. John was the focus of his life and learned many skills from his dad as they farmed together. Retirement was spent in Norquay where he enjoyed the visits from friends and family who stopped in. Bill moved to the Norquay Lodge, where he remained until his passing. His love of his faith and his church were always the center of his life. Bill was predeceased by his parents, George and Lena; his wife, Anne; his eight brothers: Paul, Andrew, John, Mike, Fr. Ron, Monty, Tony and Emil and his four sisters: Anne, Mary Furmaniuk, Nell Nahachewsky and Sonia Mcleod. He is lovingly remembered by his son, John Martyniuk of Norquay, SK; his brother, Ted (Ollie) Martyniuk of Parksville, B.C.; his sister, Bernadette Sorochuk of Norquay, SK and numerous nieces and nephews. The Prayer Service was held on Sunday, October 28th, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, October 29th, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., both from the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Norquay, with Rev. | 12 | LUKEY -The family of Mr. Jim Lukey, of Sherbrooke Veteran's Village, Saskatoon, (and formerly of Watson), are saddened to announce his death at his residence on Friday, May 18, 2007. He was 90 years of age. Jim was born on the family farm near Norquay, on October 15, 1916, to Peter and Hanna (nee Chermyzie) Lukey. He grew up there and attended Westerland Country School near Norquay. At the age of 17, Jim began working with the Canadian National Railroad. In 1940, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Armed Forces and served with the 24th Regiment, Artillery, 9th Amphibious Force, in the Aleutian Islands. While on leave, Jim married Rose Twerdoclib in St. Phillip's R.C. Church near Kamsack on April 23, 1944. He was stationed in Ottawa until his discharge in February 1946. Jim then resumed his employment with the CNR, working in various Manitoba and Saskatchewan communities until 1958 when the Lukey family, which now included two sons and a daughter, moved to Watson. A year later a third son was born to them, thus completing their family of four. While living in Watson, Jim was Section Foreman with the CNR until retiring in 1975. A great fan of all sports, Jim was always on hand to cheer on his children and grandchildren whenever he was able, and even went to games when he didn't know any of the players. He was a long-time season ticket holder and strong supporter of the Humboldt Broncos. "Dad worked hard to make sure we wanted for little, so he had little time for recreation, but cards and visiting were frequently enjoyed. " He also enjoyed curling and bowling, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Royal Canadian Legion. Jim was very musically gifted and had a keen ear. In his early years, he had learned how to play violin, banjo, accordion and guitar and played in a band. In October 2005, Jim moved from Watson. Due to declining health, his last days were spent at Sherbrooke Veteran's Village in Saskatoon. Jim was very happy to be closer to his family and loved visitors. The Funeral Mass will be offered at Sacred Heart R.C. Church on Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at 2:00 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Emile April. | 13 | Carl Lukey Obituary LUKEY-Mr. Carl Lukey, of Yorkton passed away on November 14, 2007 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 88 years of age. Carl was a long-time time resident of Norquay, Saskatchewan, he farmed with his brother Walter for over 45 years, retiring to Yorkton in 1996. Predeceased by his parents; brothers: William and his wife Ann, Nick (Brother Ambrose), Mike, Patrick, and by sisters: Anita (Sister Modesta), and Gen and her husband Ed Berezowski; he was also predeceased by a brother-in-law Myroslaw Hataley. He leaves to cherish his memory and to mourn his passing, brothers: Walter Lukey, Robert Lukey and his wife Gert; a sister, Julia Hataley; and sisters-in-law Nora Lukey and Ollie (Hataley) Mackesey; several nieces, nephews, and his many other relatives and friends. Prayers will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at 7:00pm from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. | 14 | Life on the farm by Peter Yacyshen For the Yacyshen Family Reunion 1993 Life on the Yacyshen farm was a happy one. I guess because there were so many brothers and sisters to do something foolish. Like the first to run barefooted in the spring with the snow on the ground or walk on thin ice without breaking through. Our parents were good to all of us they tried their best. We did not appreciate all that they did for us until we were on our own. When dad went to town with horses and wagon, I would go along. He would let me drive the horses. That was something great for me. For entertainment we played ball, hide and seek, hit the can, or ride the buggy down the hill. In winter we would slide down the hill with homemade sleds, a piece of cardboard or a piece of tin. These were hard times, no money for clothes. But we got something new for our Christmas concert. The crops were poor and the prices were very low. One year it hailed and the next year about 1937 the rust wiped out all the crops. But our parents were religious and would never give up. They would always say that the good Lord had a reason for all his works. We picked berries in the summertime, raspberries, strawberries, saskatoon’s and cranberries. We had to walk 3 or 4 miles to pick berries so we would stop at the farmers place along the way for a drink of water from the well. They were always friendly and would sit and visit. The berries were canned most of the time without sugar but they were sure good in the winter. I just remember a few years of the hard time by 1940. The war years the times were good, we could get a dollar and a half for a can of cream. We milked 8 to 10 cows, so we had a few cents which made us rich after not having any money. | Yacyshen, Peter (I20)

Peter convinced them to make the move around 1900. Karl and Maria Lukey packed her belongings, bringing with them their three younger children - Wasylena (17), Simon (14), and Andrew (8). Making their way by a train, they first settled in Grandview, Manitoba, and lived there for four years. Finding the land that their dad homestead on too rocky, Peter and Simon decided to look for more suitable land. Helen started school at age 6 years, walking in summer and driving a horse in the winter, it was 3 ½ miles to the school. When she passed into grade nine, Helen had to quit school, to help her father work on the farm. . Her father said that she loved farming so much she should have been a boy. In the winter Helen went to Winnipeg to work in a Photo Studio for a year. She came back every fall and went field pitching with the thrashing crew, In 1944 Helen married Walter Swiderski, They had 5 children; sons Melvin, Wayne, daughters Vivien, Lorraine, & Sylvia. Walter died in 1966. In 1969 Helen married Joe Radawetz, they lived on the farm. Helen enjoyed growing a big garden, sharing with whoever needed anything from it. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and wood works, making and selling and donating for Preeceville Hospital Auction. She loved to play bingo, curling, cards and baseball games. They moved to Norquay in 1924, where the family settled and Adolph grew up, attended school and helped with the family business, “Norquay Harness and Shoe Repair Shopâ€. Shortly after school, Adolph enlisted in the Army and spent close to 5 years overseas as a tank gunner fighting in several countries and a few historic battles including D- Day. This was a subject he never talked about with us. After the war, he returned to Norquay and married Albina (Blondie) Kurtnik of Norquay. They opened a restaurant in Norquay called “Penny’s Innâ€, a nickname Adolph got in the war because of his name and size. The restaurant business didn’t work out and Penny worked different jobs in the area until getting a position at the Norquay Post Office, where he worked until his retirement in 1986. At the same time Penny started at the Post Office, he and his wife had two children, Pattie (McKaeff) and Mark, who they raised in Norquay. Penny was active in his younger years with jockey, curling, church, and the Legion, where he was Sargent at Arms for many years and a life member. | 38 | After a brief, but incredibly courageous battle with cancer, Sidney “Syd†Lukey went to a place with no more pain or suffering on September 6, 2014. The only son of Matt and Mary Lukey (Tanasichuk), Syd was born in Grandview, MB on July 5, 1947 and spent most of his life living on the family farm north of town. Syd attended Spruce Bluff School until he thought he was smarter than the teachers. When he was 15, Syd left home to work in construction. It was not many years later, that this tough, hard-working fellow caught the eye of Sandra Antoniuk and a four-year courtship began. They married on May 24, 1969 and raised their three children, Derrick, Kelly and Jody on a farm in Gilbert Plains MB. It was during this time that Syd bought his first backhoe and began his excavation business. In the summer of 1991, Syd and Sandra returned to the family farm in Grandview, and he began working for the RM, retiring in 2011. Syd loved to be outdoors and took pleasure in most activities that were tied to nature. In his younger years, he loved to race snowmobiles, ride horses and hunt. Those passions didn’t change after his family arrived but were expanded to include camping, fishing and teaching his kids about nature and its animals. Syd loved nothing better than hooking up his horses and sleigh and taking his grandchildren for trail rides and family picnics at his beloved budha – a secluded oasis where he was well-known for being a gracious host. Syd also spent nearly every evening “patrolling†his land and the nearby Duck Mountain Provincial Park – his keen eye spotting a moose or deer a mile away. Syd loved animals and over the years his farm was home to horses, pigs, cows, pheasants, turkeys, chickens, cats and dogs. Syd was a hardworking man, but played just as hard and loved to make people laugh. Despite his cantankerous disposition, Syd was a gentle giant (with VERY large hands) that instilled many values in his children and family. His family will honour his memory by following his simple rules of life: Be honest, work hard and don’t put up with anyone’s crap. Syd was predeceased by his father in 1997, brother-in-law Joe Michaluk in 2013, father-in-law Steve Antoniuk in 1976, mother-in-law Lena in 1982, sister-in-law, Barb Demchuk in 1985 and brother-in-law Pete Demchuk in 1995. After retirement Eli enjoyed working as a part-time taxi driver in the Comox Valley for 15 years. In his leisure time, Eli enjoyed golfing and swimming. She met Ernie Sorochuk and they were married at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church south of Norquay on July 23, 1955. For the next several years, Ernie and Bernadette lived in many places, from British Columbia to Quebec. In time, they were blessed with four children: Debora, Loretta, Bruce, and Neil.Bernadette was kept busy with her “million dollar†family as she and her husband settled into rural living on a farm north of Norquay. She loved her garden, flowers, and yard. When the children grew up, Bernadette worked at the Norquay Post Office, and she enjoyed the public service.Bernadette took pride in her children’s accomplishments and especially enjoyed what she called “the greatest blessing of all†- her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
