  • Notes
    • With sadness in our hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Walter Adams at the Village of Smith Creek on November 28, 2016.
Walter was born on December 21, 1916 at Ft. Pelly, Saskatchewan to Michelina (Hrabchuk) and Joseph Adams. As a young lad, Walter attended Grantsburg School, near Norquay Saskatchewan. On November 7, 1943, he married his soul mate, Anne Lozinski at the Holy Assumption Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Maybridge, Sask. Together they set up a loving farm home in Norquay. In 1980 they sold their farm and moved to the Okanagan. In his retirement years, Walter enjoyed tending to his garden and flower filled yard. Winters were spent crocheting tablecloths, afghans and scarves. He also dabbled in needlepoint and helped Anne quilt. There was time for vacations to Alaska, the Maritimes, and trips with the Westside Seniors. Every fall they traveled to the prairies to enjoy visiting family and friends. A highlight was a trip through Europe to visit relatives in Poland. The Ukrainian Orthodox faith was very important to him. He was an active member of St. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Norquay and later in Kelowna. He ensured his children were familiar with the rich Ukrainian heritage. He loved to dance and once played the violin in a band. Walter was always an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan. On his 80th birthday he enjoyed a trip with son Murray to watch the Maple Leafs play in Toronto.

Walter was a talented, innovative man who led an amazing full life. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix, repair or build from scratch. He will be fondly remembered for his quiet strength, guidance, support, and devotion to his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, sister: Mary and brothers: Steve, Peter, Frank and Mike. Walter leaves treasured memories for daughter Eloise (Harv) Grummett of West Kelowna, daughter Corinne (Tyson) Hepburn and son Murray (Tara) Adams of Calgary, brother John of Edmonton and Carl (Ruth) of Vernon. He is also survived by his grandchildren Karise (Brad) Wilson of Miami Australia, Kyle of West Kelowna, Sophie Anne of Glasgow Scotland, Steven Hepburn, Cole and Quinn Adams of Calgary.

Our deepest gratitude goes to the staff of the Village of Smith Creek who tried to make his last years enjoyable and comfortable. A special thank you goes to Marilyn and Gisela who brought so much joy and comfort to Dad this past year.

Prayers will be held at St. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Kelowna on Monday December 5, 2016 at 7:00 PM and the funeral service will be held at the same location on Tuesday December 6, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. A light lunch will be served in the Church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice or Village of Smith Creek, West Kelowna.

May his memory be eternal! Vichnaya Pamiat!
