- ROBERT LUKEY OBITUARY
Robert "Bob" Lukey Robert "Bob" Conrad Lukey, late of Weyburn, SK passed away on February 4, 2022 at Tatagwa View Care Home at the age of 91 years. Bob was a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was sociable and humorous with an entrepreneurial spirit. Bob was predeceased by his wife Gert (Ottenbreit) Lukey, his parents Simon and Irene (Gurski) Lukey; his ten siblings; and his in-laws Frank and Caroline (Exner) Ottenbreit. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his children and their spouses: Carol (Russ) Roome, Weyburn, SK, Ron (Helene) Lukey, Marquette, MI, Janet (Lorne) Ebel, Silton, SK, Simone (Doug) McCosh, Saskatoon, SK, Evan (Sherry) Lukey, Coldstream, BC, Brian (Mahada) Lukey, Pentiction, BC, and Adele (John) Popp, Erickson, MB. He will be sadly missed by his thirteen grandchildren: four great-grandsons; sisters-in-law, Ollie (Hataley) Mackesey, Pat Ottenbreit; brothers-in-law, Dave (Linda) Ottenbreit, and Orville (Bev) Ottenbreit; as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Born on May 23, 1930 in Norquay, SK, Bob was raised on a family farm as one of eleven children. He attended high school at St. Joseph's College in Yorkton, than the University of Saskatchewan. He went onto work for Saskatchewan Government Telephones. In 1952, he moved to Weyburn to work as a Public Health Inspector. The following year he joined the Knights of Columbus and met his wife, Gertrude (Gert) Ottenbreit. He proposed in January 1954 and they married later that year. Bob was a man of strong faith with traditional values. He was community-minded, hardworking, generous and optimistic. When he thought about buying a photography business, his father thought it was a bad idea. Bob persevered with hard work and passion, and he was able to fulfill his goal of owning a successful business. Bob and Gert purchased Charnell Studio ( Weyburn) in 1960 while raising their first four children. Bob worked there in his spare time, after hours from his regular job, and on Saturdays. After three years, he began working at the studio full time. He took daily breaks to socialize with friends at local coffee spots, swap a story or two, and share his sweet sense of humour. Bob and Gert's family grew to seven children. Bob had a dream of farming and purchased 800 acres of farm land to grow wheat and barley. In 1977 he moved his family to the farm. Bob and Gert retired in Weyburn to a new house they built. From there they traveled the world: Australia to Costa Rica, New York to the Ukraine, China to Brazil and beyond. In 2013, Gert passed away, Bob continued to his devotion to the church. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and held every position from Scribe to Grand Knight. Until recently, Bob enjoyed visiting with his friends daily in Weyburn for coffee. Prayers were held Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, February 11, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn, SK with Fr. Francis Plaparampil celebrant. Pallbearers were: John Roome, Jameson McCosh, Liam McCosh, Viktor Popp, Hanna Popp and Chris Ebel. Honorary Pallbearers were the Knights of Columbus. Luncheon followed at the McKenna Hall, Weyburn, SK. Interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, SK. For family and friends so wishing, charitable donations in memory of Bob may be made to a charity of your choice.
