    • Sonia H. LePoudre Obituary
Sonia Helen Lepoudre, born May 30, 1943, passed away at the age of 80 on July 11, 2023, in Wabasha, MN. Sonia was the older of two daughters born to Paul and Minnie (Fedkiw) of Winnipeg, MB, Canada.

She married Lorne A. Lepoudre on November 10, 1962 in Winnipeg, MB. They relocated to South Minneapolis, MN in April 1964; there they raised two sons, Bradley Paul and Christopher Maurice, living in the same house for 50 years.

Sonia was an active and passionate member of the Minneapolis art community since the 60s. Over the years she co-owned an art store, owned and ran 2 art galleries, acted as art director at local galleries, and created stained glass art as a hobby. Lorne and Sonia loved exploring their new local art scene after moving to Pepin, where many of the artists and friends they met, remained close to them until the end.

One of Sonia’s favorite activities was hosting elaborate Ukrainian holiday dinners. She took pride in her heritage, and maintained tradition through food and bringing friends and family together. Whether it was a recipe passed down from her mother, or a new dish she had never made, cooking was Sonia’s art form of choice. She loved sharing it with everyone and anyone.

Upon retirement, Lorne and Sonia relocated to Pepin, WI where they enjoyed small community living. They joked that they moved just to be closer to their favorite bakery, The Smiling Pelican Bake Shop. Lorne kept Sonia busy canning the harvest he cultivated from their garden each year. Lorne did all the garden work, but Sonia was the architect, sending him to the store with a list of seeds to buy each spring.

Sonia was predeceased by her parents, and Lorne, her husband of almost 60 years, in September 2022.

She is survived by her two sons: Bradley (Cindy) and Christopher; two granddaughters: Sonia and Corey; a great grandson Rami; and a sister Patricia Fedkiw.

Memorials can be directed to medical research at Gunderson St Elizabeth’s Hospital

Funeral prayers will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Abbott Funeral Home, Wabasha. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Pepin, WI.
