- The research has been done on the base of Roman Catholic and Greek Catholic Registers of the village of Zalissia. The documents are:
Ternopil archives:
Roman Catholic: registrations of births 1784-1879, marriages 1785-1911, deaths 1785-1910,
Borschiv Registry Office:
Roman Catholic: registrations of births 1879-1944, marriages 1911-1944, deaths 1911-1938.
Greek Catholic: registrations of births 1876-1944, marriages 1872-1944.
They wrote the Registers in Latin (all Roman Catholic Registers are in Latin; Greek Catholic Registers are in Latin until 1919, and later they wrote alternately in Ukrainian and Latin); so, I will write names according to Ukrainian transcription until 1919, and original names in brackets.
KHOMEY
At the beginning of the 19th century, they wrote the surname as “Chomey”, later as “Chomej”. I will write “Chomej”.
I have managed to determine that the first of the kin was ILLIA KHOMEY (Elias Chomej). Date of his birth is unknown. He married Maria Berestna (Maria Berestna). They lived in the building No 27 and had at least 2 sons:
KHOMEY HAVRYLO (Chomej Gabriel) was born in about 1844.
KHOMEY YAKIV (Chomej Jacobus) was born in about 1852.
It is uncertain:
As you know from the research, Illia Khomey married Maria Berestna. They lived in the building No 27. Illia Khomey with his wife Yevdokia Shevchuk (Eudoxia Szewczuk) as well lived in that building. Taking into consideration the building number and the chronology, I suppose that Illia Khomey was married twice: the first time, he married with Maria Berestna, the second one, with Yevdokia Shevchuk. Unfortunately, there are no Registers of the previous period to confirm/disprove it. Nevertheless, I have done the research on line of Illia Khomey and Yevdokia Shevchuk.
So, they lived in the building No 27 and had at least 2 children:
KHOMEY PETRO (Chomej Petrus) was born in about 1862.
KHOMEY ANNA (Chomej Anna) was born in about 1866.
