- MAGDELINE FILIPOWICH
From Norquay Nostalgia 1912 - 1982
Magdeline Filipowich (Kowalchuck) born April 16, 1897 in Poland. When Magdeline was six years old, she and her parents, two sisters and brother sailed for Canada (1903). They all found their homestead in Tiny, Saskatchewan.
On February 5, 1915 Magdeline married Michael. They both lived with her parents for one year. Michael and Madgeline moved to their own homestead in 1916, in Swan Plain, Saskatchewan, where they lived and farmed.
Magdeline and Michael were blessed with ten children:
Lily, Norquay, Saskatchewan - 1915;
Pauline, Norquay, Saskatchewan - 1917;
John, Swan River, Manitoba - 1919;
Tom, Toronto, Ontario - 1921;
Joe, Swan Plain, Saskatchewan -1923;
Peter, St. Catharines, Ontario - 1925;
Walter, Downsview, Ontario - 1930;
Michael, Deceased at birth - 1931;
Marge, St. Catharines, Ontario - 1933;
Angie, Willowdale, Ontario - 1939.
Michael, her husband, passed away June 14, 1955. She was left with a home, farm and son Walter, daughter Angie, for one year.
July 7, 1956 Magdeline and daughter Angie moved in with Marge and her husband Leslie Peshko and still reside at the same address - 8 Roseland Avenue, St. Catharines, Ontario. Magdeline is a member of Sts. Cyrils and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church and also a member of the Myrhord Senior Citizens which is part of the church.
She is now blessed with a lovely family of her own which now totals 122 including in-laws by marriages. Nine children, 35 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and Byron Lee (1980) who is her first great-great-grandson - great-great-grandmother - Magdeline, great-grandmother - Liy, grandfather - Gus, mother - Wanda, son - Byron Lee.
