- Rose Filipowich Obituary
It is with sadness we announce the passing of Rose Filipowich of Benito Health Care Centre, Benito, Manitoba on November 21, 2023 at the age of 96 years.
Rose was born at her parent’s home in Hyas, Sask., January 6th, 1927, just 10 mins after her twin John. They arrived in the arms of their mother without assistance. Lena, their mother, told how these babies grew to be wonderful help to her from early childhood and all their lives. Rose began school in the Hyas area at Lake Helen School and completed grade eight at Harlington School, in the Harlington District of Manitoba.
Rose worked on the family farm looking after big gardens, chickens, and other livestock. She was a wonderful cook and loved to make perogies, cabbage rolls, and borcht for gifts. After moving to Swan River, she worked at the Sky Line Motel and the Nelson Motor Hotel. In September of 1973 Rose began working as a Dietary Aid at the Swan Valley Hospital, continuing for twelve and a half years. Rose enjoyed embroidery and has left many treasured works with her friends and family over the years. She loved to dance, play cards, and socialize. Rose helped at church functions and would lend a hand to anyone. She enjoyed her home at Heritage Manor, the fellowship of residents and her regular afternoon soaps along with many a movie.
Rose married John Filipowich November 10th, 1945. They resided in the Kenville area, four miles south of town. They spent a few years in Toronto, Ontario returning to Big Woody District in about 1950 and resided there until the summer of 1966 when they moved to 407-6th Ave. North, Swan River, Manitoba. In 1985 they moved to 4th Ave. South, Swan River, Manitoba and she resided there until January of 2001 when she moved into Heritage Manor.
Rose will be remembered by: her daughter, Irene (John) Iwanchuck and daughter in law, Betty Filipowich;. Grandchildren, Derek, Kim, and Matthew Filipowich; Curtis, Shawn, and Carla (Matt) Wills. Rose was also the proud great grandmother of 14 great grandchildren. She will be missed by her sister in law (Mary) Lychuk; Sisters Stephanie (Bill) Macooh, and Lavina Lychuk; as well as sister-in-law Adline Lychuk. Rose also leaves in-laws, Walter and Rose Filipowich; sisters in law Marge Peshko, and Angeline Floyd, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends to celebrate her life.
Rose was predeceased by: husband John Filipowich (1998); son Daniel Filipowich (2015); her parents Lena Radwanski Lychuk (1988), and Walter Lychuk (1969); in-laws Magdelina Filipowich (1999), Michael Filipowich (1955); Brothers Paul Lychuk (1935), John Lychuk (1981), Peter Lychuk (2003) and Stanley Lychuk (2022); Sister Anne (Steve) Rublez, Josephine (Joe) Bossy (2012). Also predeceased by in-laws, Pete and Ann Filipowich; Tom and Helen Filipowich; Joseph and Winnie Filipowich; Pauline and Frank Gurski; Lily and Fred Tataryn; and Lesley Peshko, and Jim Floyd.
