FICZYCZ, Dr. Nestor Julian
February 16, 1940 - February 15, 2014
Nestor Ficzycz, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away suddenly at home in Calgary on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the age of 73 years. Nestor was born in Dauphin, Manitoba in 1940 and attended St. Joseph's High School in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. He attended medical school at the University of Saskatchewan followed by residency in Flint, Michigan and New York City. He then settled into family practice in Regina where he met Patricia and they married in 1970. During his 40 years in family practice, Nestor touched the lives of countless patients until his retirement in 2005. Nestor and Patricia relocated to Calgary in 2008 after which they led a robust life full of friends and family, lots of laughs and great food. He was happiest sitting at the head of the table watching his grandkids romp around the house and ask him questions. Dido knew something about everything and there wasn't a question he couldn't answer. Nestor loved spending time outdoors, going on drives through the country, painting, playing bridge and reading. Nestor's quiet calm, steady hand and wisdom will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 43 years; his three children - Andrew and his wife Jennifer; Natasha and her husband John and their children Andrew, Matthew and Nicholas; and Jennifer and her husband Warren and their children Alexander and Ben, and one sister Anne (Ed) Schiller of Regina. He also leaves behind many extended family members and countless friends. He was predeceased by his parents and five sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church (4903-45 Street SW) for Funeral Vigil Prayers on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 7:00 pm. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held at St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church (4903-45 Street S.W. on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 10:00 am. Private family graveside service to follow at a later date.
