- Lukey Family
In 1898 and ambitious young man immigrated to Canada, spending a year in this country and writing spirited letters to his parents. Peter convinced them to make the move around 1900. Karl and Maria Lukey packed her belongings, bringing with them their three younger children - Wasylena (17), Simon (14), and Andrew (8).
Making their way by a train, they first settled in Grandview, Manitoba, and lived there for four years. Finding the land that their dad homestead on too rocky, Peter and Simon decided to look for more suitable land. Two weeks of very exhaustive hunting and prospecting went by as they finally picked the site at Norquay.
