- Cheryl Sliva Obituary
Funeral Service: Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 10:00am from St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Rama, Saskatchewan
Cheryl Ann Sliva (Barteski), age 66 years, of Saskatoon formerly of Rama, passed away in the early morning hours of January 8, 2023, at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Cheryl was born to Peter and Jean Barteski on March 18, 1956, in Edmonton, Alberta. She was the eldest of six children. Cheryl grew up in the Invermay, Saskatchewan area. She took her formal hairstyling training in Winnipeg, Manitoba at Marvel College in 1974. Upon completion of her course, she moved back to Saskatchewan where she married her husband, Lorne Sliva of Rama in July 1975. They welcomed four children: Denise, Kyla, Kenneth and Joseph. While raising their children, Cheryl worked various jobs and did hair at home. Cheryl was an active member of the community volunteering at various clubs and organizations that her children were active in. Cheryl was an engaged member of St Anthony’s RC parish. She enjoyed singing and sang in the church choir and at many weddings.
Cheryl and Lorne’s home was always a comfortable place for family and friends to enjoy her cooking and socialize. Many hours were spent in the kitchen visiting while Cheryl would do hair for her friends and family. In 2021, Cheryl’s health deteriorated, and she and Lorne moved to Saskatoon to be closer to their children and health care.
Cheryl leaves to mourn her passing, her husband of 47 years, Lorne Sliva of Saskatoon; her children Denise & Will, Kyla & Ray, Ken & Liz; her grandchildren Jayden, Angelika, Damon, Makayla, Kaitlynn, Dale, Emery, Aftyn & Fallyn; her mother Jean Barteski; siblings Kevin (Sylvia), Kathy, Darren (Maureen), Stewart (Andrea), Curtis (Cathy) and their families. She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Sliva in 1998, her father Peter Barteski, her parents-in-law Joseph & Zonie Sliva, and nephew Mathew Barteski.
In keeping with Cheryl’s wishes a funeral mass and internment will be held later this summer.
