    Notes:

VII. Line of Nick Panagabko, of Benito, Manitoba, and Norquay, Saskatchewan
    1. ____ Panagabko, apparently of Kajana, Galicia, where his son Nick was born in 1896. Known issue:
Anna Panagabko, born 1893-94 (by calculation), 2 April 1956, aged 62; married John Panagabko (see Line VI above).
    2Nick Panagabko, born 11 December 1896.
    2. Nick Panagabko, born 11 December 1896, alive in 1979 (when he celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary). According to the local history of Norquay, Saskatchewan, “Nick Panagabko was born on December 11, 1896, in Kajana, a village in Austria. As a very young man, only 17, he came to Canada in 1913, to join his sister and brother-in-law who had arrived in the new land three years previously. His first Canadian job was in a harness and shoe repair shop in Toronto…. In 1916 … he arrived in Benito, Manitoba, and started a shoe repair shop.”[78] It will be seen that this account matches that of his sister Anna (Panagabko) Panagabko in Line VI above. He married 10 October 1919, Mary Hrabarchuk, of Benito, born ca. 1903, died 2 November 1981 at Norquay, daughter of John Hrabarchuk and Mehalena ____.[79] They had five children, for whom see the local history of Norquay. This work states that their son Edwin “played hockey in the national teams,” and we presume he was identical with Edwin Arnold (“Eddie”) Panagabko, born 17 May 1934 at Norquay, died 18 January 1979 at San Mateo, California, a professional ice hockey player who played 29 games in the National Hockey League, and later played with the Boston Bruins.[80]

Nick married Mary Hrabarchuk on 10 Oct 1919. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

    Adolph (Penny) Panagabko
Adolph (Penny) Panagabko was born March 15, 1921 in Arran, SK to Nick and Mary Panagabko. They moved to Norquay in 1924, where the family settled and Adolph grew up, attended school and helped with the family business, “Norquay Harness and Shoe Repair Shop”.
Shortly after school, Adolph enlisted in the Army and spent close to 5 years overseas as a tank gunner fighting in several countries and a few historic battles including D- Day. This was a subject he never talked about with us.
After the war, he returned to Norquay and married Albina (Blondie) Kurtnik of Norquay. They opened a restaurant in Norquay called “Penny’s Inn”, a nickname Adolph got in the war because of his name and size. The restaurant business didn’t work out and Penny worked different jobs in the area until getting a position at the Norquay Post Office, where he worked until his retirement in 1986.
At the same time Penny started at the Post Office, he and his wife had two children, Pattie (McKaeff) and Mark, who they raised in Norquay.
Penny was active in his younger years with jockey, curling, church, and the Legion, where he was Sargent at Arms for many years and a life member.
He was a kind and loving man who was always willing to help a friend and he is missed very much.

    Obituary

    IDA'S OBITUARY
Ida (Padagabko) Cherewyk went to her Lord and Savior during the early hours of December 24, 2013 at the age of 88 years. Ida was born on August 25, 1925 in Norquay SK, to Nicholas and Mary (Hrabarchuk) Panagabko. Her first priority in life was always her family. Starting with her marriage to Andrew in 1948 and the children that followed. You would always find her busy with her family. She was the best mother and grandmother anyone could ask for. A huge garden was a necessity along with a tidy house. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. Her deep faith in God was the basis on which she lived her life and raised her family. When Andrew passed away in 1991, she continued to maintain the house and the garden/yard and was busy with her church and filling her freezers for the kids when they came home. Many will recall her years of being the Norquay Taxi , ensuring that her Girls as she fondly called them, made it to church and their various appointments. Ida would never hesitate to help anyone who asked. She always enjoyed a good laugh even if it was at her own expense. Once the Parkinsons took over, the tough decision to move her had to be made. It was a long road for her, but she did so with such dignity. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Ida was predeceased by her parents: Nick and Mary Panagabko; husband Andrew; son Sheldon; sister Joanne Syme; brothers: Edwin and Adolf; and in-laws Nick and Pearl Cherewyk. She leaves to mourn her passing, her children: Gregory (Sylvia), Gay Lynn (Dwayne) Madill, James, Charmane Johnson (Pat Kowal) and John; her brother Pete Panagabko, brother-in-law Cal Syme and sister-in-law Albina Panagabko; her grandchildren: Janel, Sean, Roman, Tyler, Andrew, Whitney and Matthew; and her great-grandchildren: Alexi, Sienna, Sadie and Xavier, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Staff at Malinowski House for taking care of Ida and allowing her to live with dignity, despite her condition. A Prayer Service was held on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at 7:30 pm. Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 10:30 am. Both services were held from the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Norquay, SK, with Rev. Fr. Ivan Derkach as celebrant. The interment followed in the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Parish Cemetery, southwest of Norquay. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a Parkinsons Association of ones choice as tokens of remembrance in memory of Ida Cherewyk.
