Romy Huska passed away on January 5, 2003.

He died peacefully in his sleep at home, after a two-year fight with cancer.

Romy was born on October 17, 1938 in Norquay, Saskatchewan. In 1958 he moved to B.C. and in 1959 joined the RCAF as an airborne electronics technician.

He was stationed all over Canada before going overseas to France and then to Germany. He loved travelling and attending all the European car races, Le Mans, Brands Hatch, Nurnburg Ring, etc. He met his English wife in “Germany and they were married in England in 1968.

They came to Winnipeg in 1969 and Romy left the armed forces in 1971, moving back to B.C.

For the next 30 years he worked in the sawmill industry, first as a purchasing agent and later as a maintenance planner. For the past 12 years he worked for Lignum Ltd. Romy had a thirst for knowledge and was interested in everything, he loved to travel, camp and pursue his hobbies of photography, building remote air controlled air planes, exploring the back country and listening to CBC. His interests in music, film, world history and current events made him a formidable opponent on board games.

He was happiest raising his two children and most of his spare time was spent with them. His love of flying, sailing and travelling was shared by his family.

Romy’s community involvement was extensive, having been president of the Royal Canadian Legion in Chetwynd and spending several years within the cadet movement. He was commanding officer of both Air Cadets in Chetwynd and later of Sea Cadets in Williams Lake.

Romy was a man of few words, he worked diligently and always saw things through to the end, no matter how difficult they were. He loved his family and he was happiest out exploring with them or travelling. The ocean was a favourite place for Romy and it was here he indulged in his passion for kite flying. He spent hours on the beach with his children with many different varieties of kites, with the well-known grin on his face.He was looking forward to taking his grandchildren to the beach as well, but it was not to be. He fell sick in January 2001 and fought a great fight with many varied treatments and never once complained or lost faith, he remained positive to the end.

On January 4, 2003 Romy had the joy of naming his first granddaughter on hearing of her safe arrival in Powell River and died 18 hours later, happy with the knowledge both his daughter and granddaughter were doing well.

He leaves to mourn: Pauline, his wife of 34 years, daughter Jennilyn (Adam Robbie) and newly born granddaughter, Calli Romy Robbie, his son, Colin and mother, Stella of Chase. Also left to mourn are nine siblings: Angie (Joe Kohlen) and Pat (Connie of Williams Lake; Victoria Brears of Grande Prairie, Steven (Judy), Marie (Les Murray) and Terry (Linda) of Quesnel, Theresa (Bruce Scott) in Chetwynd, Patricia (Brian David) in Chase and Ivan (Laura) in Vancouver. Also numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and many very special friends.

He was predeceased by his father George Huska in 1991.

    Rest in Peace Romy.
