NELLIE NOVAL Peacefully in the arms of Stan, Ken, Sharon and Roy, we the family announce the passing of Nellie Noval with profound sadness and heavy hearts on December 25, 2004 at the age of 86 years at Kildonan Personal Care Centre. Our prayers were answered that Mom spend one more Christmas with us. Her memory will be cherished by her devoted husband of 63 years, Stanley; son Ken; daughter Sharon (Roy Naurocki); grandchildren, Kristofer, Amanda, Kelly; great-grandson Joshua and goddaughter Florence Swereda. She also leaves to mourn brother Mike Yacyshen and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Marta and Sverko Yacyshen; brothers, John, Metro, William and Peter; sisters, Anne Qwechuk and Lena Antoniuk. Nellie was born on March 5, 1918 in Norquay, SK. Here, Nellie's unconditional love for family, deep religious faith and the Ukrainian culture took roots. This would sustain her throughout her entire life to her final days. Along with her five brothers and two sisters, Nellie attended North Willow Grove School in Norquay where she had many happy memories with her siblings and often shared them with her family in later years. As many young women did at that time, Nellie left the farm and travelled to Winnipeg to seek employment. Nellie's first job as a housekeeper enabled her to save enough for her later career. Nellie graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse from St. Boniface Hospital. Her nursing career allowed her to remain in Winnipeg, where she met many new friends and attended the popular dances at that time. At one of these dances she met a young man who later became her soulmate and devoted loving husband. After dating for a year, Nellie and Stan were married on January 9, 1942, by Fr. Bozyk in St. Anne's Ukrainian Catholic Church. After the birth of her two children, Ken and Sharon, Nellie remained at home to care for her family. Nellie was a wonderful homemaker who loved cooking, sewing, gardening and visiting with their many friends. As Nellie's children grew up she returned to work at the Marlborough Hotel where she made many new friendships. Nellie and Stan shared the love of travel. In early years, frequent visits to Gilbert Plains, Norquay, Banff and Chilliwack were made. In later years, the travel grew. In 1975 Nellie and Stan began their adventure of travel which took them to the Holy Land, later England, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Rome, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Hungary, Egypt, Pompeii, Mediterranean, United States, Mexico, Alaska and all of Canada. In 1992 Nellie, along with her family returned to her roots, Norquay, and the Yacyshen Family reunion. Nellie's deep religious faith was present throughout her life. Her love of the rosary was evident to the moment of her passing. Nellie and Stan attended daily mass at St. Mary's Cathedral, was a member of the Franciscan Friary, a devoted supporter of the Marian Hour, a member of the Catholic Women's League, a Misericordia Hospital Volunteer, and an original March of Dimes Mother. For the last four years, Nellie was a resident at Kildonan Personal Care Centre, where she was treated with gentleness, care, compassion and dignity. The family wishes to thank K.P.C.C., especially the 2nd floor staff who made her final days comforting and peaceful. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 29 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral, 353 St. Mary Ave. with Rev. Fr. Micheal Koroluk officiating. Private family interment at Assumption Cemetery. Nellie's pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Kristofer, Amanda and Kelly Noval and nephews, Jarvis Swereda, Norman Mikoluff and Terrance Demchuk. Mike Yacyshen, husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully, on December 16, 2010 at Chilliwack General Hospital (CGH) surrounded by family. Born February 9, 1920 in Norquay, Saskatchewan, middle son of Severko and Martha Yacyshen, Mike will be remembered as a warm-hearted man and wonderfully talented story teller, who touched the hearts of and forever changed all who knew and loved him. Mike had a zest for life and never lost interest in either the world or the well being of those close to him. Married to Bernice May (Palaniuk) Yacyshen, in 1953, they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this past April. He was predeceased by his son Ed and seven siblings. He is lovingly missed and remembered by his wife Bernice and his children: Carolyne, Ron, Gerty (Martin), Tom, and Jo, and his grandchildren, Gabriella, Lena, and Shayda as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Markey for the excellent care he provided for Mike and the support he has given to the family. In addition, they wish to thank the nurses on the 3rd floor at CGH. Funeral service for William Yacyshen, 79, of the Norquay area, who died Feb. 1 at his residence, was held Feb. 4 at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Norquay with Rev. Ivan Nahachewsky officiating. Burial was in the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery in Norquay with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
Born on Mar. 4, 1922, on the family farm in the Norquay area to Serveriko and Maria (Romashenko) Yacyshen, he attended North Willow Grove School. He worked in a mine in Flin Flon, at a sawmill in northern Saskatchewan and at a mine in Sudbury. In the early 1940s, he took part in building the road now known as Highway No. 49. In later years, he worked with the department of highways. He married Mildred Holm in 1948 and they farmed in the Norquay area. Predeceased by his parents Serveriko and Maria, a son Edward in infancy, a grandson Travis Protz, two sisters, Ann Quechok and Lena Antoniuk, and three brothers, John, Metro and Peter, he is survived by his wife, Mildred; a son, Gabriel (Barb) of Canora; five daughters, Barbara (Bjarne) Hoiberg of Calgary, Sharon (Clarence) Protz of Yorkton, Veronica (Fred) Bidding of Dauphin, Joy (Charles) Witwicki of Canora and Kimberly (Arden) Lazorko of Edmonton, a brother, Mike (Bernice) of Chilliwack, B.C.; a sister, Nell (Stan) Noval of Winnipeg, 14 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Life on the Yacyshen farm was a happy one. I guess because there were so many brothers and sisters to do something foolish. Like the first to run barefooted in the spring with the snow on the ground or walk on thin ice without breaking through.

Our parents were good to all of us they tried their best. We did not appreciate all that they did for us until we were on our own.

When dad went to town with horses and wagon, I would go along. He would let me drive the horses. That was something great for me.

For entertainment we played ball, hide and seek, hit the can, or ride the buggy down the hill. In winter we would slide down the hill with homemade sleds, a piece of cardboard or a piece of tin.

These were hard times, no money for clothes. But we got something new for our Christmas concert.

The crops were poor and the prices were very low. One year it hailed and the next year about 1937 the rust wiped out all the crops. But our parents were religious and would never give up. They would always say that the good Lord had a reason for all his works.

We picked berries in the summertime, raspberries, strawberries, saskatoon’s and cranberries. We had to walk 3 or 4 miles to pick berries so we would stop at the farmers place along the way for a drink of water from the well. They were always friendly and would sit and visit. The berries were canned most of the time without sugar but they were sure good in the winter.

I just remember a few years of the hard time by 1940. The war years the times were good, we could get a dollar and a half for a can of cream. We milked 8 to 10 cows, so we had a few cents which made us rich after not having any money.

Peter was born on April 17,1926, at Norquay, SK, son of Cverko and Maria Yacyshen (nee Romoshenko). He received his schooling at Norquay, SK and completed his education at Winnipeg, MB. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces (Navy) and following discharge was employed with C.N. Railways out of Kamsack, SK in the running trades working throughout various points in Mani toba and Saskatchewan as locomotive engineer until 1984. He then retired to Dauphin, MB where he had since resided. Peter was a member of the Dauphin St. Viator’s Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Dauphin Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 20, Dauphin. In 1957, at Sturgess, SK, Peter married Gladys Holm. He is survived by his wife Gladys; and his loving family: four daughters Eldora and husband Peter Manshanden of Brandon, MB, Julian and husband John Soltis of Brandon. MB, Peggy and husband Clement Hacault of Bruxelles, MB, and Bernadette and husband Barry Morton of Dauphin, MB; 11 grand children; two brothers Bill and wife Mildred Yacyshen of Norquay, SK and Mike and wife Bernice of Chilliwack, B.C.; one sister Nellie and husband Stan Noval of Winnipeg, MB; sister-in-law Esther Yacyshen of Edmonton, AB; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. Wolkowski, Annie – August 12, 1921 – July 30, 2012, aged 90 years passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Annie was born on the family farm, in the Rama district, to John and Julia Yacyshyn (nee Muszyj). As a young girl, Annie, attended Rama School. On November 7, 1943, she married Willie Wolkowski at Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Rama. They were blessed with four daughters. Together, they purchased a business from Harry Tretiak along the old #5 highway. In 1956, they built a new service station and grocery store in Rama, along the new #5 highway. There, Annie worked managing the grocery part of the business, while Willie took care of the service station. They ran their business until Willie’s passing in 1987, where she then moved into a house in Rama where she resided until her passing. While living in Rama, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, bingo, spending time with her family and friends and the Rama Golden Jets. All who knew her and loved her will dearly miss her.

Left to mourn her passing her daughters; Hazel Zawerucha, Christine (Raymond) Dyky, Colleen (Ron) Kostiuk, one son-in-law; Danny Brooks, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two sisters; Zoni Sliva, Elsie Mack, two brothers; Ray (Isabel) Yacyshyn, Tony (Shirley) Yacyshyn, one sister-in-law; Helga Yacyshyn and by numerous nieces and nephews. Helen (Yacyshen) Radawetz was born Jan. 22, 1925 to Julia & John Yacyshen, in Rama Dist. She was the 7th child. Helen started school at age 6 years, walking in summer and driving a horse in the winter, it was 3 ½ miles to the school. When she passed into grade nine, Helen had to quit school, to help her father work on the farm. . Her father said that she loved farming so much she should have been a boy. In the winter Helen went to Winnipeg to work in a Photo Studio for a year. She came back every fall and went field pitching with the thrashing crew,
In 1944 Helen married Walter Swiderski, They had 5 children; sons Melvin, Wayne, daughters Vivien, Lorraine, & Sylvia. Walter died in 1966.
In 1969 Helen married Joe Radawetz, they lived on the farm. Helen enjoyed growing a big garden, sharing with whoever needed anything from it.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and wood works, making and selling and donating for Preeceville Hospital Auction. She loved to play bingo, curling, cards and baseball games.
Helen is predeceased by Her parents; husbands Walter Swiderski, and JoeRadawetz;, son Melvin Swiderski; son in law Bob Masko; granddaughter Cheryle Swiderski; brothers Bill and Zeno, sisters Mary Madarash, Lena Kuchelyma, Olga Sliva, Stella Kunca, Katerina Yacyshen.

Sliva, Zonie (nee Yachyshen) January 14, 1929 - May 25, 2018, entered eternal rest at the Invermay Health Centre, at the age of 89 years.

Zonie was born to John and Julia Yachyshen. She grew up on a farm near Rama along with her 11 siblings. She attended Rama School. Her mother passed away when Zonie was 11 years old, leaving her older sisters, to teach her cooking and household skills. They taught her well, as she was a terrific cook and homemaker. She spent one summer employed as a babysitter / housekeeper for a family in the Kuroki/ Fosston area.

In 1945, her dad packed up Zonie, and her younger brothers and sisters and moved to Brandon, Manitoba. Her brothers and sisters remained in Brandon but Zonie returned to marry her brother-in-law, Joe who had returned from the army. Joe and Zonie were married on Aug 4, 1947 in the St. Anne’s RC church in Buchanan. For a short time they operated a Texaco service station in Buchanan with Joe’s brother –in –law, Mike Diakuw. Farming was Joe’s passion so in the spring of 1948 Zonie and Joe moved a mile north of Joe’s original homestead, where his brother Louis and Zonie’s sister Olga lived since their marriage in 1944. There was an old house built in the 30’s on the farm, and Zonie and Joe lived in a granary while they made that old house their home.

Zonie’s life on the farm was busy with cows, pigs, chickens, gardens, and children. She was an avid gardener and spent countless hours in her garden and greenhouse. Her flowers were always lovely and gave her much pleasure. She lovingly weeded even though she was tired. Zonie had a special talent for sewing, she could make a dress without a pattern, just by looking at it. Sometimes she ordered a dress from Sears, looked at it and made her own. Nearly all her clothes, and Gladys’ were made by her. She did use a pattern for Gladys’ wedding dress, and that caused her more grief than the countless clothes she made on her own, as she was not used to following patterns. She said she relaxed when she mended and patched clothes, she must have had to relax a lot as sometimes even her patches had patches.

Between farming, haying, cooking, cleaning, sewing, knitting, quilting, crocheting, crafts, and gardening, Zonie managed to give birth to 4 healthy children, Lorne, Gladys , Daniel, or Danny as he was called, and David, or Sammy as Danny wanted to name him. She was a loving, busy mom.

Religion was a large part of Zonie’s life, and she instilled Christian values in her children. She was an active member of Sts. Peter and Pauls’ church in Dobrowody and then when it closed she assisted at church activities at St. Anthony’s in Rama.

She loved socializing and company was always welcome. She’d throw together an awesome meal at the last moment, whether it was her canned chicken, chicken soup, or fresh garden produce along with fresh cream and butter. There was always cake or cookies and fresh bread on Mondays. Zonie enjoyed it when the yard was full of children. The family got together every few Sundays while Joe and his boys played music Zonie had enough for all to eat. Zonie loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed when they came to visit. The grandchildren loved to come to the farm for “holidays”. While they were there they could count on the cookie bear being full, and that Grandma would not run out of borscht and perogies. They could usually ride the Yamaha, and she kept a close eye on them to be sure they were safe, but let them work things out for themselves. One time Joseph got the Yamaha stuck and she watched as he rocked and pushed until he eventually got it out. Her comment was “He’ll be sore tomorrow”. When he did get back to the yard she didn’t chastise him, she just said “you better wash all that mud off.” Poor Taylor, being younger, didn’t get away with as much opportunity to be adventurous due to the silly antics of his older cousins Cory, Kenneth and Calvin. Denise loved to feed the horse, Kyla was grandma’s reliable helper, and Alison and Brittany were just happy to be with Grandma. Zonie had 9 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 13 great-grand children and one step-great grandson and loved each of them and appreciated all their visits.

After Joe passed away in 1997, Zonie remained on the farm, until Nov. 2011, when she broke her foot, and realized that after 63 years she could no longer stay on the farm by herself. She moved into Park Place, a senior development, in Canora. She learned how to play bingo and even shuffleboard. We could not get her on the phone as she was out in the common area socializing or playing cards. This was the best move ever for her. She had spent her life working so hard it was finally her time to take it easy and have some fun. Zonie remained there until Aug. 2015 when her health deteriorated and she became a resident of Invermay Health Centre.

Zonie was always pleasant and kind, even when her health failed her. Thanks to the Invermay Health center which made her last years safe and happy. She always appreciated visits from friends and family, and had a special smile for everyone.

Zonie was predeceased by her parents John and Julia Yachyshen, her husband Joe in 1997, her grandson Joseph Peter Sliva in 1998 her siblings: Mary, Lena, Bill, Annie, Olga, Helen, Stella, Zeno and Raymond, 13 in-laws, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She leaves to celebrate her life; son Lorne (Cheryl) their children, Denise (Will), Kyla (Ray), Kenneth (Liz) and Zonie's great-grandchildren; Jayden, Angelika, Aftyn, Fallyn, Dale, Emery, Damon, Makayla and Kaitlynn, daughter Gladys (Barry) Fiendell and their children, Cory (Kate), Calvin (Melissa) and Alison, and Zonie’s great-grandchildren Ashley, Paige, Mackenzie and Weston, son Daniel (Cheryl) and their children, Coty, Jade (Brandon), Kalyn, Josh (Flynn) and Zonie's great-grandson Kole, son David (Laura) and their children Brittany (Chris), Taylor (Shelby) and Zonie's great-grandchildren Carter and Bennett, besides her children and grandchildren Zonie will be remembered by her sister Elsie, her brother, Tony (Shirley) and sisters-in-law Helga and Isabelle; many nieces and nephews, wonderful neighbours and friends.

Memorial Donations may be made to the St. Anthony's R.C. Cemetery Fund or Lady of Lourdes Shrine both of Rama.

Raymond Peter Yacyshen, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. The youngest of fourteen children Ray was born in Rama, Saskatchewan and moved to Brandon with his dad and some of his siblings after his mother’s passing. After school he worked at various jobs ending up at Brandon Packers, a job he thoroughly enjoyed, honing his skills as a knife man. On February 4, 1956 Ray married Isabelle McLean of Douglas, Manitoba. This union produced two sons: John, granddaughters Robin (Trevor, great grandchildren Jacob, Aaron, Caleb, Nathan, and Jade) and Colleen (great grandchildren Kurtis, Jaemie); Danny (Lisa, grandsons Spencer and Brett). He also leaves his sisters Elsie Mack and Zonie Sliva and brother Tony (Shirley) and many nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his parents John and Julia, seven sisters, three brothers, Isabelle's parents, brother-in-law Bill and his wife Mary. Obituary for Maurice Joseph Yachyshen

YACHYSHEN - Mr. Maurice Yachyshen, beloved husband of Helen Yachyshen of
Yorkton, formerly of the Rama district, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2007
at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 78 years of age. Maurice Joseph
Yachyshen was born on November 16, 1928 in the Rama district of Saskatchewan;
a son of Nicholas and Mary (nee Groshko) Yachyshen. Maurice grew up on the
family farm and attended Boxmoor School and then Rama School. He completed
his education as a student resident at St. Joseph's College in Yorkton. While here
and under the guidance of the Christian Brothers of Delaselle; Maurice was
involved in sports: Baseball, Hockey and Boxing and the Army Cadets. Maurice
enjoyed practical jokes and laughed at the outcome. He loved music, playing guitar, singing, whistling or
humming as was evident to all! As well, if there was a dance; you could be sure Maurice was found on
the dance floor. In 1952 Maurice Joseph was united in marriage to Helen Theresa Korchinski. They
settled in the Mainroad District to farm and break the land. Toiling many laborious hours by the sweat
of his brow and with Helen by his side; his ability to work with his team of horses to take the burden of
pulling was amazing. The family moved to the Bellindean district and farmed for a couple of years then
moved near Rama continuing to farm. In 1970 the family moved to Yorkton, where they have since
resided. Maurice continued to farm in Rama with his family helping him on weekends and holidays. At
the end of a long work day, Maurice always reflected with laughter and jokes about the adventures of
the day. Later in life, Maurice's fondest times and enjoyment was to rebuild a cabin at Canora Beach.
He was admired as an "Artist" erecting a work of art with his own hands. In his senior years Maurice was
an avid gardener; being ever so proud of his abundant vegetable crop to share with his family and
friends.
Above all, Gido loved spending time with his children and grandchildren; telling stories about farming
and the "good old days" Gido was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He was very special to
everyone. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Helen of 55 years; children: Wayne (Ryan and
Tiffany), Garnet and Karen (Tyler), Donna (Eric and Melissa and Shane), Alannah (Aiden and Azlyn),
James and Cindy and two sisters: Olive Tabin and Joan Danylyshen. Maurice was predeceased by his
parents Nicholas and Mary; sister Anne Melnyk and brothers: Walter, Alex and Eugene.

Prayers were held on Sunday evening, July 8, 2007 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton.
The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, July 9, 2007 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic
Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko C.Ss.R. as celebrant. Cantors, Ed Pindus and
Colette Karapita, assisted by members of St. Mary's Parish Choir, led in the singing of the responses. The
crossbearer was James Yachyshen. The interment took place in Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic
Parish Cemetery at Rama with Ryan and Lorne Yachyshen, Eric and Shane Statchuk, Grant Mihalcheon
and Barrie Bonsal serving as the casketbearers. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.

Joan was born on the family farm on October 16, 1931, and left us on July 26, 2019 to reunite with family and friends who departed before her.
Joan was predeceased by her parents Nick and Mary Yachyshen, husband Mike, grandson Brett and her son Bernard.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Judi (Ed), Hope, Doris, and Michael (Anita); daughter-in-law Bonnie; grandchildren Nicholas (Pam), Jordan (Adele), Royce (Elaine), Evan (Carly), Ashley (Phil), Noah, Emma and Leah; great grandchildren Gwen, Alice, Oliver, Isabella, Jase, Madison, Lexi, Hayden, Savannah and Gabriel; and constant companion Tika.
She loved living on the farm and being a farmer. She loved her animals and passed that love to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joan was a member of many community organizations and of course her church. Midnight mass was her favorite. She loved sports of all kinds and always the debate after. We were all honoured to have received one or more of the many knitted or crocheted projects she made.
Family was the greatest for her. She loved her family reunions and the havoc that insued. Joan was always up for a game of cards. If you came to visit there was always food (pork chops) and coffee on the stove. She could take a good joke and also dish them out. Joan always took time to chat with whom ever was around.

Daniel (Danny) Sliva age 67 years of Climax, Saskatchewan, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at the Shaunavon Hospital & Care Centre in Shaunavon, surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer.

Danny was born to Joseph and Zonie Sliva on September 25, 1954. He grew up on a farm northeast of Rama, Saskatchewan with 2 brothers and a sister. He learned his work ethic and how to farm at a young age. After high school he attended an accounting program in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and then took a different career path, with the Government of Saskatchewan which lasted for 48 years. He started working for the Department of Highways and later at Saskatchewan Crop Insurance as an adjuster/auditor; where he worked up until his passing. He met his wife Cheryl Nerada in 2000 and they were married in 2015; after a long engagement. Danny was a father figure to Coty, Jade, Kalyn and Josh. He especially loved his grandson Kole. Danny was very proud to be a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He liked the outdoors; camping, gardening, travelling, and fishing. He was all about family and spent much time with his kids, nieces, nephews and grandson. He always had a smile on his face and was always willing to help. He will be greatly missed.

He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Zonie, his nephew Joseph Sliva and his brother-in-law Barry Fiendell.

Left to mourn Danny’s passing is his wife Cheryl, his children Coty, Jade, Kalyn and Josh (Sheree); grandson Kole; Daniel’s brothers Lorne (Cheryl) and David (Laura); his sister Gladys as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. from the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Climax with Reverend Father Melchor Samonté officiating. Interment will take place at Climax Cemetery. Eulogy will be presented by David Sliva. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) is in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Josh Raketti, Kalyn Raketti, Jade Raketti, Coty Raketti, Kole Raketti and Ken Peters.

YACYSHEN: It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Cynthia "Cindy" Hope Yacyshen on Friday, November 16, 2012 at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg. Born May 13, 1968 in Brandon, Cindy attended school at Valleyview Elementary, Vincent Massey Jr. High School as well as Vincent Massey Sr. High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) from the University of Manitoba in 1991, and received a National Certificate in Fundraising Management. Cindy worked for the Manitoba Theater Centre as a Campaign Officer from 1992 - 1995, then at Brandon University as Sr. Development Officer (Institutional Advancement Department) from 1996 - 2009 before becoming a sponsorship coordinator for the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba from 2011-2012 and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba. Cindy was passionate about wildlife and enjoyed horseback riding. Left to cherish Cindy's memory are her mother Helga Yacyshen; brother Wayne Yacyshen; nephew Brendan as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins and very good friend Holly McKee. She was predeceased by her father Zeno Yacyshen; twin brothers Todd and Trevor Yacyshen and her maternal and paternal grandparents. The Funeral Service was held at Memories Chapel on Friday, November 23, 2012. Rev. Rick Wells officiated. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. He was predeceased by his father, Walter Yachyshen; his sister, Elsie Yasinski; his brothers-in-law, Mike Kowalchuk, Tom Okrainetz, Ron May and Harold Davidson; his father and mother-in-law, Fred and Marj Burton; his sister-in-law, Linda Davidson. After graduating high school Lorne worked in Snow Lake, Preeceville and settled in Saskatoon where he was employed at ASL Paving Ltd. as a Heavy Duty Mechanic until the time of his death. Family meant a great deal to Lorne and he cherished the time he spent with his son Layne. He was very involved in Layne's sport activities of basketball, baseball and most recently had purchased golf clubs for both he and Layne to learn the sport together. The Prayer Service will be held on Sunday, June 13, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at Park Funeral Chapel (311 Third Avenue North). The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. John Sianchuk, C.Ss.R. on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. from Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church (10th Street and Munroe Avenue, Saskatoon). Following the Funeral Liturgy, the interment will take place at Rama Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Obituary

Bernard Arnold Danylyshen (Bernie) was born in Winnipeg Manitoba on January 16, 1954 to Joan and Mike Danylyshen. Bernie passed away peacefully in Coronation, AB on July 26, 2019 at the age of 65 years after a valiant battle with cancer. His passing in the early morning was a call home to his dear Mother Joan and just hours later she closed her eyes and joined him in heaven. He is also reunited with his son Brett after many years of suffering his loss.
Bernie grew up on the family farm at Rama, Sask. He took his early schooling in Rama and attended high school in Yorkton, Sask. graduating from St. Joseph’s College in 1972. Bernie went on to University in Saskatoon and eventually settled on the College of Education. He proudly convocated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Education degree in 1977.
While at University Bernie met Bonnie Glass from Dysart, Sask. and they were married December 1, 1973.
Bernie started his 32 year teaching career in Pennant, Saskatchewan in January 1977. While there he and Bonnie welcomed their first- born Nicholas on December 8, 1978. He accepted a teaching position in Vanguard, Sask. moving there in the summer of 1979. After a year in Vanguard Bernie, Bonnie and Nicholas moved to Milden, Sask. where he taught at Milden Central School. Their second son Brett was born on June 15, 1981.
While in Milden Bernie took on a variety of teaching responsibilities. Over the course of 13 years he taught Jr. and Senior High English, Industrial Arts, Social Studies, Phys. Ed. and Computers.
Together Bernie and Bonnie raised the boys and were very involved in the community. Life in Milden was busy and good but changes happen. Bernie applied for a posting for a Principal in Veteran, Alberta in 1993 and he was successful. The family moved to Veteran that summer.
Bernie jumped into his new role at the school and the years flew by. After a very successful and satisfying teaching career he retired in January 2009, holding the distinction of being the longest serving principal in the history of Veteran School.
Bernie always believed if you took on a job you did it right and to the best of your abilities. He was interested in everything. While in Milden he served a term as Village Counsellor, was involved in Minor Sports, Curling Club, Recreation Board, Rink Board and Hospital Board. He coached volleyball and curling and devoted many hours to the boys’ ball teams and Scouting. He built wooden toys and crafts, studied photography and computers, collected sports cards coins and stamps, cheered for the Riders and the Blue Jays and always worked on his physical fitness. He took up cycling and in 2002 he and Bonnie went on the trip of a lifetime cycling across Canada with the Tour du Canada.
After the cycling trip he twice inspired the students at Veteran School to take a cycling/camping journey to Gooseberry Lake.
He was always interested in running and had completed several 5 and 10 K runs but then he got serious and decided to start training for marathons in 2004. His efforts took him to Rome, Orlando and San Francisco and closer to home to Kelowna, Regina, Lethbridge, Edmonton and Calgary.
Bernie and Bonnie moved to Coronation in 2004 and he proceeded to renovate their house and build things in the yard. He had a keen interest in model trains and he built part of the yard to accommodate a Garden Railway. Sadly, he never quite completed this long term project.
He volunteered his time to community efforts in Coronation and really enjoyed his life to the fullest. He continued with all of his hobbies and he read everything. After his retirement Bernie and Bonnie purchased a holiday trailer and spent time travelling to various points in the States and Canada. Last summer they decided to try motorhome life and sold the trailer. He was just thrilled to sit behind the wheel of that old bus and they did take a few trips before winter set in.
This past winter Bernie was not well and was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer at the end of January. He did the best he could and remained at home for the most part. He endured a lot of pain but he remained stoic and optimistic throughout this part of his life. He never lost faith and he tried so hard to stay with us. In the end he was so very tired and his heart stopped beating on July 26.
Bernie is now reunited with his son Brett, father and mother Mike and Joan Danylyshen, father-in-law and mother-in-law Joe and Helen Glass and his good old dogs Captain and Sondra.
Bernie is lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 45 years Bonnie; his son Nicholas (Pam) and granddaughters Gwendolyn and Alice; his two little dogs Duke and Sarge and his grand dog Charlie. He leaves to mourn his passing his sisters Judi (Ed) Richard, Hope Aldred, Doris Danylyshen and his brother Michael (Anita) Danylyshen, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carol and Gord Gray; his nieces and nephews Jordon (Adelle) Danylyshen (Oliver); Royce (Elaine) Aldred (Isabella and Jace); Evan (Carly) Aldred (Madison, Lexi, and Hayden); Ashley (Phil) Dao (Savannah and Gabriel); Noah, Emma and Leah Danylyshen; Susan Shipley (William and Sarah); Tracy Updike (Jessica Updike) (Becky Gray (Jeremy) - Alexis and Maci); and Greg Updike (Manuela) - Amelia) and many other relatives and friends.
