    OLEKSIUK
In the Registers, they wrote the surname in Latin as “Olexiuk”, “Oleksiuk” and even “Olexijow” and “Olexiow”. In the land documents 1820, they wrote “Olexow”. I will write “Oleksiuk”.
    5
I have managed to determine that the first of the kin was DMYTRO OLEKSIUK (Demetrius Oleksiuk). He was born in about 1836. He married Iryna Byrka (Irena Byrka). She was born in about 1835; she died 13.03.1889 at the age of 54. Dmytro died 4.05.1895 at the age of 59. They lived in Babyntsi in the building No 58.
In the land documents 1820, 3 Oleksiuk families lived in Babyntsi at that time: Oleksiuk Yuriy (No 57), Oleksiuk Stephan (No 58) and Oleksiuk Semen (No 61). Considering the building numbers, I assume that Stephan was the father or grandfather to Dmytro. Nevertheless, there are no Registers of the previous period to confirm/disprove it.
Dmytro and Iryna had at least 2 children:
OLEKSIUK HRYHORIY (Oleksiuk Gregorius) was born in about 1868. In 1889, he married Varvara Lukiy (please see the information above).
OLEKSIUK MARIA (Oleksiuk Maria) date of birth is unknown. She married Kyrylo Lukiy (please see the information above).

Family/Spouse: Karl (Kyrylo) (Karelo) Lukey. Karl (son of Ivan (Joannes) Lukiy (Lukij) and Martha Yarema (Jarema)) was born in 1849 in Bldg 107, Babyntsi, Borodianka Raion, Kiev Oblast, Ukraine; died in 1926; was buried in St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Norquay, Saskatchewan, Canada. Obituary
LUKEY-It is with great sorrow the family announces the passing of our beloved JOHN LUKEY on July 5, 2007 at the age of 101. The passing was peaceful, with his family at his side. Born at Norquay, Saskatchewan on Oct. 5, 1905, John spent most of his adult years in Alberta. After high school and university in Winnipeg he joined the Bank of Toronto, later pursuing a career as a school administrator in the Alberta education system. He was the first Secretary of Alberta's first school division, (Berry Creek S.D. No. 1), and was for years the longest serving senior school division administrator in the province. After retirement in 1974, John and wife Harriet moved from Sunnynook to Lethbridge, where they were both active in the Eastern Star until her passing in 1980. John was also active with the Shriners and the Masons with whom he had been a Deputy Grand Master. LUKEY -The family of Mr. Jim Lukey, of Sherbrooke Veteran's Village, Saskatoon, (and formerly of Watson), are saddened to announce his death at his residence on Friday, May 18, 2007. He was 90 years of age. Jim was born on the family farm near Norquay, on October 15, 1916, to Peter and Hanna (nee Chermyzie) Lukey. He grew up there and attended Westerland Country School near Norquay. At the age of 17, Jim began working with the Canadian National Railroad. In 1940, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Armed Forces and served with the 24th Regiment, Artillery, 9th Amphibious Force, in the Aleutian Islands. While on leave, Jim married Rose Twerdoclib in St. Phillip's R.C. Church near Kamsack on April 23, 1944. He was stationed in Ottawa until his discharge in February 1946. A great fan of all sports, Jim was always on hand to cheer on his children and grandchildren whenever he was able, and even went to games when he didn't know any of the players. He was a long-time season ticket holder and strong supporter of the Humboldt Broncos. "Dad worked hard to make sure we wanted for little, so he had little time for recreation, but cards and visiting were frequently enjoyed. In his early years, he had learned how to play violin, banjo, accordion and guitar and played in a band. In October 2005, Jim moved from Watson. The interment will follow in the Preeceville Community Cemetery.

Memorial donations in memory of Nellie Long may be made to Preeceville Home Care or to St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church as gifts of remembrance.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Preeceville Funeral Home.

Nellie Anne (Lukey) Long was born on March 6, 1922 in Canora, Saskatchewan to Peter and Hannah (Eugenia) Lukey. Nellie was the youngest of 8, having 1 sister and 6 brothers. Nellie's parents had immigrated from Ukraine separately, met in Winnipeg, married and headed west to homestead near Norquay.

Nellie received her education at Westerlund and Norquay Schools. At 10 years of age Nellie was at home sick for a week when the doctor decided she must be sent to the hospital 30 miles away in Canora. They made a bed in the sleigh and travelled by team and sleigh to hospital where she had her ruptured appendix removed the following morning. After completing her grade 11, the highest grade available in Norquay, Nellie helped on the family farm.

In 1942 Nellie got a job with the bank of Toronto, later the Toronto Dominion Bank. In 1952she came back home to care for her father when her mother passed away. Her father passed away in 1953. She went back to the T.D. Bank until 1960, working in various branches in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and British Columbia.

Nellie met Russell Long during W.W.II and on September 6, 1957 they married in Preeceville. In 1960 their first daughter, Susan, was born, and in 1962 their second daughter, Shirley. Nellie stayed at home with the children then. From 1967 to 1972 Nellie was Secretary Treasurer for the Preeceville Rural Telephone Co. Meetings were held at her house once a month, and on those evening Russell and the girls were told to stay in their rooms and be quiet!

In 1972 Nellie started working at Formo Motors Ltd. in Preeceville as the accountant bookkeeper. In 1986 she retired from Formo Motors.

Nellie loved gardening, knitting, and spending as much time as possible with the grand children. She was also an avid curler. Many winters were spent in rinks attending bonspiels and socializing! Another love was Bingo. She often attended locally and loved Kinsmen Radio Bingo on Saturday nights. Her luck was frequent! She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Preeceville, a fellowship centered on positive lifestyles. Nellie was a Founding Member of the Preeceville and District Heritage Museum and received an Honorary Lifetime Membership in 2014. Nellie and Russell were also members of Club 60 in Preeceville and it was there Nellie enjoyed carpet bowling. Her most noted involvement was in the CWL which she became a member of in 1957. It was just over the last couple of years that it became too difficult for her to attend. But her faith grew even stronger. She also sang for years in the St. Patrick Church choir.

Nellie loved going downtown each day for coffee to socialize, a practice she started with Russell. She loved fall suppers, Christmas concerts, and carol festivals. But the time when you really saw her face light up was then the grand children and great grandchildren came over. They were her world.

Nellie was predeceased by her parents in 1952 and 1953, her husband Russell in 2005, and all her siblings. She leaves to mourn daughter Susan (Jim), daughter Shirley (Dervin), 3 grand daughters Alishia, Carmilla (Matt), and Jerrica (Andrew), 6 Great Grandchildren Reagen, Tanesha, Quilana, Torsten, Sadie, and Emeric, 2 sisters-in-law Anne Lukey and Margaret Lukey, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nellie married Russell Marshall Long on 6 Sep 1957 in Preeceville, Saskatchewan, Canada. Russell (son of William Long and Thilda Myrfield) was born on 24 Jul 1919 in Waler District, Preeceville, Saskatchewan, Canada; died on 16 Sep 2005 in Preeceville, Saskatchewan, Canada. 25TH SILVER WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
    ANNOUNCEMENT
    FOR
    ANNA AND LOUIE LASKOWICH

    KAMSACK, SASKATCHEWAN
On November 28, 1948 in the parish hall at the Church of Holy St. Jehoshaphat (St. Josaphat the Martyr) in Kamsack, Saskatchewan the Silver Wedding [Anniversary] took place for the noble folks of Luka (Louie) and Anna Laskovych (Laskowich).
The noble Laskowichs are faithful children to their Church, and devoted to the cause of the people. Their Silver Wedding [Anniversary] was not only a celebration with their family, who came from Norquay and the surrounding area, but also a rejoicing with their friends and acquaintances in Kamsack.
They began the next [phase] of their married life with God at St. Josaphat’s early, on a holy day, Sunday, November 28; he [they] and his [their] children started with Holy Confession and Holy Communion.
In the evening at the Parish Hall, ladies from the Women’s Fraternity [Society] prepared dinner and Reverend Fr. Voladimir (Vladimir])Flyak said a few words to the guests of Mr. Laskowich; he addressed the tasks of the Ukrainian family in the time of ungodly Communism, which tries to destroy the family and the people. He encouraged endurance in the faith of the fathers to preserve the native language and customs of the Ukrainian people.
We, as well as friends and acquaintances gave them and their family wishes and gifts. At the urging of Reverend Father Voladimir(Vladimir), who had recently arrived from Lebanon (Arab/Israeli War – 1948) near Palestine, $40 was collected for charitable purposes; $25 dollars which is intended for wanderers [refugees], $10 for the Headquarters of the Ukrainian Catholics of Canada, and to the press fund for the Ukrainian Vista, $5.

    Donald Peter Moshenko Obituary
    Heavy Heart

Don Moshenko, long time Milford resident lost his battle from complications with Covid on January 13 2021. He will be remembered as a kind caring generous and humorous man who loved all his children and grandchildren.

Many will remember him for his love for this country, unique hats, old western movies, horse racing, watching Secreteriet, football, bowling, his speedway coffee and driving his Lincoln town cars all around town before dementia altered his ability to enjoy those things that made him special to many. Those that knew him will remember him always tipping his hat when greeting or saying good bye.

His family asks that you remember him for those positive qualities that made him unique and special and dismiss those that were a struggle as part of the darker side of dementia. We are truly heartbroken.

He leaves behind his loving wife Sharon, two sons David in Greenwood, South Carolina and Michael (Erica) in Las Vegas Nevada, and three stepchildren Terry Peterson (Christel) in Emmett, Mi, Sara (Danny) Scull from Lexington Park, MD and Carl (Abigail) Peterson from Virginia Beach, Va, and grandchildren Ashley (Mike) Zuniga, Anthony (Ashlyne) Ingle, Elizabeth, Olivia, Kaleb and Max and great grandsons Colton and Logan all who he adored. He also leaves behind brothers and sisters in law and nieces and nephews who he loved to be around and his little four legged buddy Lexi, our little dog who he loved to pamper. spoil and loved to walk.

As his dementia got worse he made it well known he missed his parents Peter and Mary Moshenko and knew he would unite with them when he turned 80. January 11th he turned 80. He is now pain free and will celebrate with his parents. His family will miss him terribly and he will always have a special place in our hearts. A celebration of life will be planned for a safer time due to Covid.

AUDRE GRACE SKURA (nee LASKOWICH) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, at the age of 87, on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Grace Hospital. Left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Greg (Yvonne), Gerry (Marie) and Sydney; five grandchildren, Natalie (Steve Sample), Amy (Shawn Baraniuk), Neal (Melinda), Nicole (Stephen Kanters) and Mitchell; step-granddaughter, Alexa Cartwright; and five great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Parker, Noah, Everett and Riley; sister Waldemera (Peter Goshulak); sister-in-law, Stella Laskowich, and brother Ezydor (Laurele). Also sisters-in-law Ollie Skura, Helen Dyer; brother-in-law Nick (Emma) Skura, and loving niece, Joann Quigg. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry (in 1995); brother, Herman (in 2006), and grandson, Matthew (in 2009). Born in Norquay, SK in 1924 to Louis and Annie Laskowich, she was the oldest of four children. She attended school in Norquay, Hudson Bay Junction and Sacred Heart Academy in Yorkton, SK. Audre came to Winnipeg to attend a business course, wanting to be a nurse, and was accepted at St. Boniface Hospital but was discouraged due to length and expense. She met Harry, was married in 1944 and they enjoyed 50 years of marriage together. While raising three sons, she devoted most of her time to the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League. As a founding family of St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Audre served as President of the Women's League and volunteered at the Holy Family Home. As the boys grew older, Audre and Harry enjoyed traveling, with especially fond memories of Rome, Fatima, Lourdes and other European countries. Part of a close-knit group, they hosted many evenings of cards and conversation. Employed at Lucerne Foods for many years, she then volunteered at the Deer Lodge Centre (over 20 years) and enjoyed watching her family grow. Fondly referred to as Baba, she looked forward to visits from her grandchildren. Her door was always open and they loved her delicious meals and wonderful baking. She was blessed to have a close, loving relationship with her five great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her many friends at the parish; she attended the spring teas and bridal showers, volunteered at the perogy suppers, and sang alto in the church choir, to name a few of her favourite activities. Since moving to Glendale Court, Audre made many close friends and enjoyed several activities in the block. The family would like to acknowledge the loving care that she received from the staff at the Grace Hospital on 3 South. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 23 at St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt St. with Rt. Rev. Canon. W. Klimchak and Fr. Isidore Dziadyk, OSBM officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Cemetery. As per Audre's wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Basil's Church, 202 Harcourt Street, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3H3. Obituary for Esydor Laskowich

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Esydor Laskowich on October 8, 2022, at the age of 82 years

He will forever remain in the hearts of his wife, Laurele; daughter, Shannon (Edward) Nadeau; sons, Sheldon (Kelly), Ian (Marilyn) and Andrew (Brianna) Campbell; his eight grandchildren and sister, Waldemere “Wally” (Peter) Goshulak; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Esydor was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Anne; siblings, Audrey (Harry) Skura and Herman (Stella) Laskowich.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue NW, Edmonton.

    Good Morning;

My name is Jerry Yacyshen, and Esydor is my cousin, on our mother’s side. On behalf of the family, I would like to say a few words about Esydor’s life.

Esydor was born on July 24,1940 in Canora Saskatchewan to Louis Laskowich and Annie Musey, both of Ukrainian Catholic descent. He was the youngest brother to Herman, Audre and Waldemera. Most of his youth was spent in Norquay and Kamsack Saskatchewan and finally settling in Dauphin, Manitoba.

In 1955, at the age of 15, with his dad’s assistance, he got a job with CNR as a porter and left Dauphin, Manitoba. He travelled through out Canada for many years, working at different jobs, but mainly focusing on the plumbing and heating industry.

In 1968 he met Olga Smutt in Winnepeg, and in 1970, their daughter, Shannon was born. Because of Esydor’s free spirit, the family travelled and worked in many places.

In 1974, they lived in Headingley, Manitoba; 1976 took them to Regina, Saskatchewan and in 1991 they settled in Edmonton, Alberta. Unfortunately, in 1998 Olga passed away.

While working at Revelstoke in Edmonton, he met Laurele Scott. They were married in St. Albert, in 2000 and he welcomed his three sons into the family. In 2010, Esydor’s health started to deteriorate and in 2017 he retired.

Esydor can be best be described as a free spirit, laid back, fun loving, hard working and a caring soul.

Ezydor had a very outgoing personality. This was always evident whenever the family attended outside events. He would joke with waitresses, make people feel welcome at family events and encourage people to always put their best foot forward. At work, he would always help his colleagues and would go out of his way to make sure that they were successful, sometimes even at his own expense. He loved to laugh, joke around and people gathered around him to be a part of his joy and wit.

Esydor loved all people, but he had a natural gift when dealing with children. This was evident when he held a part time job as a bus driver for disabled children. He would make them laugh, comfort them when thought they were down and make them feel special as individuals. When he retired from this job, the students had a celebration for him as being the most loving and caring bus driver ever.

Besides people, Esydor was very fond of animals. Throughout his life he always raised dogs or cats and had a way with them that was special.

He was very devoted to his mother and father. They recognized his strengths and encouraged him to pursue his life with love and compassion.

Their strong faith was always embedded in Esydor and many times he yearned to return to his catholic upbringing that his parents had always encouraged. One of his last requests was that some of his ashes be placed with his mother and father in Dauphin, Manitoba.

Esydor loved life, but most, he loved his family.

His wife Laurele, and their three son’s:
    His daughter Shannon and Edward
    Sheldon and Kelly
    Ian and Marilyn
    Andrew and Brianna

and of course his 8 grandchildren, which he loved dearly and was completely devoted to:

    Jonathan
    Julianne
    Emmett
    Keira
    Shayna
    Alexesis
    Clark
    Shaelyn

    Rest in peace Esydor.

Card of Thanks Garth, Melissa and family’s would especially like to express our heartfelt thanks to The Lloydminster Hospital, Home Care Staff, friends and family that helped us throughout these last months. Words cannot express how truly grateful we are for your kindness and compassion. Eulogy for Gerald Gazdewich Good Afternoon, my name is Garth Gazdewich Thank you all very much for joining family and friends to celebrate the life of Gerald Gazdewich, my father. To some he was known as Gerry or Big Gaz. I see familiar faces and some new ones which go to show you that Dad truly was a part of many lives. As we gather here today, Melissa and I would like us to focus on the stories of interactions with Dad. I choose to focus on the stories of laughter, compassion, expectation and caring. When I think of my father, I think of a gentle, quiet, caring man who would at the drop of a hat do anything you ask for family and friends. Don’t get me wrong, if Dad wanted to speak his mind or let you know he disagreed strongly with a decision or opinion – he could push back with a firm tone. It was never arms in the air, retching around wildly but a firm voice that would make ones ears stand up and command your attention. Dad is the eldest of nine brothers and sisters. Grandma you are an exceptional woman to be able to manage that many children. Why today if you have eight or more kids you get a reality show on TV. Uncle Brent shared a story when he and Dad were wee lads on the farm outside Norquay SK. Dad was 12 and Brent 6 when they were playing hide and seek in and amongst the stooks. Dad was hiding and Brent was running around trying to find him but Dad had left a pitchfork lying close to his location – now Brent thinks it might have been left there on purpose because he ended up with a pitchfork in the side of the knee. Dad then had to carry Brent across the field back to the farmhouse so that he could get patched up. I am very sure there were more shenanigans that went on at the farm over the years. Not sure how many of you knew that he had a dislike for raisins. I had just thought he did not like the taste or texture of them. When he was a toddler, Grandma was busy on the farm running around tending to livestock etc. and she would put Dad in his playpen. There were no popcorn twists or cheerios to tie children over back in the olden days, so she decided raisins would be a good idea. Grandma would throw a handful of delicious raisins in the pen for Dad. He would gobble them up but as I learn now, he always considered them to look like flies and so goes the story of his dislike for raisins. I am certain the flies were plentiful on the farm and in his case he would have snacked on them as well. Dad and Mom worked hard when they arrived in Lloydminster to provide for Melissa and me. Dad was welding and putting in long shifts. I remember the time that Dad took Melissa and me to the Universal shop where he was working, North of town on our first fishing expedition. I was maybe five or six and Melissa was running around in the mud. They had trout in that pond so Dad was careful to put the fly on the hook and the red and white bobber. He cast the hook out a few yards into the pond, handed me the rod and told me to hang onto it, watch if the bobber moved and if so pull the rod up and start reeling. Well just like any other 5-year old, those instructions went in one ear and out the other. After about a minute nothing was happening and I thought fishing sucked. I wanted to go play in the mud like Melissa. He told me firmly that I needed to be patient as fishing takes time. Eventually that bobber did go up and down. I was so excited that I completely forgot all the tips on reeling in the line and started running the other way, rod in hand. After a few feet the fish was flopping on shore. I had caught my first fish. Dad grabbed the rod, reeled in the line to make sure it did not get all tangled up as he wanted to make sure the gear stayed in tip top shape. He was very particular of his stuff. Fishing was a passion of his and many years later my brother-in-law – Kelly and I were fortunate to go out to the BC Coast and fish for Salmon, Halibut and other fish. Dad just laughed at us green horns the three days we were out there as Kelly and I took turns casting, catching and leaning over the boat to lay chum. So much fun that ocean fishing. While we were complaining about our stomachs, he was complaining about how sore his arms were getting reeling in all the fish. Some of Melissa’s fondest memories were watching “Funniest Home Videos” and “Just for Laughs” with Dad. They would literally soil (keeping it clean) themselves laughing at those shows for years. They even watched some of the shows in the hospital. Another inside joke between Dad and Melissa is when they had gone to visit Grandpa Boser at the Jubilee Home. They had sat down for coffee and all of the residents would make their way into the coffee room. There was one guy who would always show up in his waffle knit underwear. They thought this was funny and they would have a good chuckle. Dad would tell Melissa if he was ever in that position……..to make sure he had sweat pants on at least. Another great passion of Dad’s was sports. It was a large part of his life from playing hockey, curling in the winter to golf and ball in the summer. Once his playing days were over, he shifted to the officiating side of things. He refereed hockey in the winter and then once the ball season started up he donned on the navy and blue to umpire ball. He loved umping as Softball back in the 80’s around Lloydminster was huge. No one really played baseball around these parts. It was all about Softball. I remember travelling to tournaments on weekends with him. He would alternate umpiring behind home plate and doing the bases. Normally we would show up at the tournament in Lashburn / Chauvin or wherever around 7am. We would then have a toolbox meeting behind the car while Dad was getting dressed. He would give me a couple of bucks to tie me over and say, don’t leave the ball park and don’t get into any trouble. That was a green light for me to do whatever I wanted so long as nobody ratted me out. (Maddox this does not apply to you). Child care was so much easier in those days. Dad would ump all day rain or shine. I chased foul balls and earned two bits for every ball brought back to the score keeper. At the end of each day, Dad and the other umpires would pop the top off a few stubby’s and talk about the day’s action. Dad’s highlight came in the early 80’s where he was selected to Umpire in a Junior Women’s National Championship. He was very proud of that accomplishment and every so often he would bring it up in discussion. I thought those trips were so cool and will cherish them forever. Dad was able to travel around for work over the years spending time in Norman Wells N.W.T. and overseas in Yemen. He would tell stories of how cold it was in Norman Wells. How the sun never went down in the summer and how the sun never came up in the winter. His trips to Yemen he would talk about some of the dangers riding around in the back of his vehicle with his driver and security guard brandishing AK47s for protection. Up and down the right away of the pipeline, hitting security check points every so often. He never really did get used to that. I would have felt sorry for anyone who might have tried to kidnap him as he would have likely told his captures that you grabbed the wrong guy. If my wife comes over here, you will be in big trouble. Mom was a bit of a pistol. Some of you that knew him through work around Lloydminster may not believe this but he really did enjoy his consulting work. I know he was tough on some but we would talk every other day and he would always look forward to the day’s work activities. Whether it was working on a turnaround at a nearby Oil Battery or overseeing the offload and setting of a field tank, Dad always looked forward to working in the Oilpatch. To his Grandchildren, Grandpa loved spending time with all of you. I would speak to him often about Chloe and Gillian’s adventures and how busy they were. If it wasn’t gymnastics, it was horses or 4H or school, band trips and how hard the girls work to juggle their busy lives. On weekends during the summer, I usually caught him at a Chuckwagon event where the girls might be riding in with the Canadian Flag for the anthem or helping behind the scenes with the outrider horses. Most of the time he would fill me in on which driver knocked over a barrel and how that would cost him precious seconds for day money. Dad would come to Calgary usually around an important event for the kids. He would come for Rowan’s dancing and musicals or Maddox’s Hockey. He recently visited us a couple of times, once for Rowan’s Musical which he went to watch on his own and another to look after the kids while Cheryl and I went away. I had told him once he got to Calgary to be prepared that he had to turn around and go on a Bus Trip to Oyen for Maddox’s Hockey game. Sure enough 8am Saturday morning on the bus for a 5-hour trip one way to go watch the Cochrane Rockies get their butts kicked 13-1. When I asked how Maddox played, he was quiet and only mentioned he was on the ice for less than half of the goals (-6 not bad son). That’s better than some of the fella’s in this room. He started to slow down over the past few years and coffee meetings seemed to become the norm. I would call him on my way into work and his routine consisted of getting ready for the first round of coffee early in the day either at Tim Horton’s or Arby’s. Sometimes I would catch him already there hearing the old boys in the background talking about everything under the sun. He enjoyed his 3-5 coffee sessions each day. That just seemed to me like a whole lot of bathroom breaks. Dad did keep his humor during his stay in the Hospital. Just two weeks ago Melissa was visiting and the nurses came into the room and told him they needed to reposition him up higher into the bed. One nurse said “ Gerry you are such a tall man – you need a taller bed” He fired back quickly “ and ……… I need a taller nurse to move me!” There are countless other stories and memories I will remember. I am sure all of you have your own to look back on. He provided a good life for his family and I choose to remember all of the good times, the funny times because he was my father and I will miss him. Thank you all for coming!

  86. 137.  Lorne Kenneth GazdewichLorne Kenneth Gazdewich Descendancy chart to this point (46.Stephen3, 11.Nellie2, 1.Maria1) was born on 4 Jun 1949 in Canora, Saskatchewan, Canada; died on 19 Jan 2024.

    Notes:

The family of Lorne Kenneth Gazdewich of Hyas, SK, is saddened to announce his sudden passing on January 19, 2024, at the age of 74 years.
Lorne was born on June 4, 1949, the second of nine children, to Stephen and Nettie (Anastasia) Gazdewich in Canora, SK.
Lorne grew up on the family farm south of the highway between Hyas and Norquay and attended school at Ulric, Moss Lake and Hyas. Over the years he shared stories of the naughty, but innocent, pranks he played alongside his peers when he was school age. He left school in his high school years to help out on the family farm. In his early adult years, he worked in construction and helped build many roads in the area. He also became acquainted with truck driving and continued to do some farming.
Lorne married Marlene Zinchuk on June 30, 1973. They moved to The Pas, MB, in 1975 where they began their trucking company, L&M Gazdewich Trucking. While Marlene worked a variety of jobs, Lorne continued to operate the trucking company with the help of his loving wife’s assistance. In 1981, they welcomed their daughter, Michelle, into the world. In the late 1980s, Lorne and Marlene built and managed a Goodyear tire dealership that they ran together called, Lomac Enterprises, while continuing to operate the trucking company. In 1994, they had the opportunity to follow their dream and move to British Columbia. They sold their tire business and home and headed west soon afterward. They settled in Salmon Arm, BC, and built a home there with a beautiful view that they hoped to someday retire in. Lorne continued to drive truck and operate heavy duty equipment in several different capacities in BC while also spending time driving his own semi back in Manitoba. Tragically, Marlene passed away in 2002, in a semi accident that Lorne was involved in as well. Lorne continued to work and spend time with companions in BC until he had a stroke in 2008. Shortly afterward, he moved back to the prairies to be near family. He reconnected with Sharon McDuff, who he had known from his years in The Pas. Sharon and her late husband had been friends with Lorne and Marlene. Lorne and Sharon established a hobby farm south of Hyas where they lived together for the next 14 years. After moving back to Saskatchewan, Lorne worked for Broda, drove grain truck for several farmers, and, most recently, served as a councillor for the RM of Keys. Sadly, Sharon passed away in November 2023 after a short fight with cancer. Lorne’s unexpected passing occurred exactly two months after Sharon’s. As strong and mighty as he was for so many years, his heart likely could not take such heartbreak any longer.
Aside from the people and occupation he loved, he also enjoyed a variety of activities, most of which were outdoor. Lorne loved to fish, boat, camp, cook, and play cards. When he lived in BC, he was an avid golfer as well. Although Lorne enjoyed vacations to Hawaii, Las Vegas, and the Bahamas, he was more content to go on road trips near and far across Canada and the United States. In his later years, he kept himself busy making homemade wine, breeding rabbits and pigs, and caring for his sea buckthorn orchard. Lorne was unapologetically proud of his daughter and her family and treasured being a Gido. He made every possible attempt to attend birthday parties, dance recitals, piano recitals, baseball and hockey games for his grandchildren.
Lorne is survived by his daughter – Michelle, son-in-law – Michael, and grandchildren – Steven, Boston, Silas, and Asher Guillet. He is also survived by: his brothers – Brent Gazdewich and Delwyn (Marilyn) Gazdewich; his sisters – Cori (Ken) Wade, Cindee (Wally) Danielson, Colleen Gazdewich, and Clarissa (Dwayne) Mydonick; his brothers-in-law – Lorne Zinchuk and Eddie (Carol) Balyski; his sister-in-law – Lydia Dzaman; Sharon’s family – Carrie (Noel), Stacy (Todd), Brent (Susanne); Halie (Jake), Thomas (Sarah) & their children, and Elizabeth, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by: the first love of his life, his wife – Marlene, the last love of his life, his common-law partner – Sharon, his parents – Stephen and Nettie Gazdewich, his parents-in-law – Harry and Mary Zinchuk, his brothers – Tim Gazdewich and Gerald Gazdewich, his brothers-in-law – Barry Danielson, Lawrence Wayde, and Dmytro Dzaman, his sister-in-law – Marlene Gazdewich, his nieces – Melanie Zinchuk, Cheryl Wayde, and Darlene Fullawka and his great-nephew – Matthew Fullawka.
A public viewing will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, on Sunday, January 28, 2024, and Funeral services at 11:00 am on Monday, January 29, 2024, both from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home in Canora with Laura Dahl officiating. Interment will follow at the Canora Cemetery.
Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Lorne Gazdewich.
